Yates Health Tonic Trace Elements Chelates 500mL: Complete Micronutrient Mix

Yates Trace Elements Chelates is a health tonic for your garden. It's a complete liquid trace element mixture that corrects soil and plants lacking in essential micronutrients, supplied in a chelated form for efficient uptake.

Useful When You Can't Pin Down the Deficiency

This is the real strength of a mixed product. Single-element correctives like an iron or copper chelate work brilliantly when you know exactly what's missing, but diagnosing a trace element deficiency by eye isn't easy, and several of them look similar.

Yates Trace Elements delivers all the essential micronutrients in small doses, which means it can be used where the exact deficiency can't be diagnosed. If your plants are showing general signs of struggling, yellowing leaves, stunted growth, poor flowering or disappointing fruit quality, and you can't identify which specific element is short, this covers the whole range without you having to guess.

Guaranteed Analysis

  • Sulphur (S) as sulphate: 0.53% w/v

  • Iron (Fe) as iron lignosulphonate chelate: 0.34% w/v

  • Magnesium (Mg) as magnesium lignosulphonate chelate: 0.34% w/v

  • Zinc (Zn) as zinc lignosulphonate chelate: 0.34% w/v

  • Manganese (Mn) as manganese lignosulphonate chelate: 0.26% w/v

  • Boron (B) as boron lignosulphonate chelate: 0.13% w/v

  • Copper (Cu) as copper lignosulphonate chelate: 0.043% w/v

  • Molybdenum (Mo) as molybdenum lignosulphonate chelate: 0.005% w/v

Each element does specific work. Iron and manganese drive chlorophyll production and green foliage, magnesium sits at the centre of the chlorophyll molecule itself, zinc supports enzyme function and growth, boron is critical for flowering, pollination and fruit set, copper supports enzyme systems, and molybdenum is needed for nitrogen metabolism.

Why Foliar Works Better

Yates recommends applying this as a foliar spray, for two reasons.

First, it's faster. Spraying delivers nutrients straight to the leaves that need them, rather than waiting on root uptake. It also bypasses soil chemistry problems altogether, and that matters more than people realise. High pH soils in particular lock up iron, manganese and zinc so tightly that adding more to the soil achieves very little. Going through the leaf sidesteps that entirely.

Second, foliar application puts far less into the soil than a drench does, which means less wastage and a lower risk of trace elements accumulating to toxic levels over time.

Formulated to Reduce Leaf Burn

This product uses lignosulphonate chelates rather than the EDTA chelates found in most trace element products, and it behaves differently. It releases the nutrients gradually, which minimises the leaf burn that foliar sprays can otherwise cause. It also sticks firmly to the foliage and is rain-fast in 2 to 3 hours.

How to Use

Foliar spray (recommended, but not for stone fruit):
Mix 20 mL in 1 litre of water and spray to lightly wet the leaves, stopping before run-off. Repeat every 2 to 4 weeks.

Soil drench (use this method for stone fruit):
Mix 5 to 10 mL in 2 litres of water and apply to moist soil around the plant, every 2 to 4 weeks.

Do not use the foliar spray on stone fruit (peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, cherries), which are sensitive to these sprays on the foliage. Use the soil drench method for those instead.

Apply in the early morning or late afternoon rather than the heat of the day, and onto moist soil. Avoid over-applying to the point of run-off, since that's what causes leaf burn. Don't mix it with nitrogen fertilisers.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children and pets.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you use Yates Trace Elements Chelates?
As a foliar spray, mix 20 mL in 1 litre of water and spray to lightly wet the leaves without run-off, repeating every 2 to 4 weeks. For stone fruit, use a soil drench instead: 5 to 10 mL in 2 litres of water applied to moist soil.

What's in it?
Sulphur, iron, magnesium, zinc, manganese, boron, copper and molybdenum, with the metals supplied as lignosulphonate chelates for better uptake.

What are the benefits?
It corrects general micronutrient deficiencies that hold plants back, supporting green foliage, healthy growth, better flowering and improved fruiting. Because it supplies the full range in small doses, it works even when you can't identify the specific deficiency.

Can I use it on stone fruit?
Not as a foliar spray. Peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots and cherries should be treated using the soil drench method instead.

When should I apply it?
Early morning or late afternoon, avoiding the heat of the day, and onto moist soil. Repeat every 2 to 4 weeks while symptoms persist.

Why spray the leaves instead of watering it in?
Foliar application gets nutrients into the plant faster and bypasses soil chemistry problems. High pH soils lock up iron, manganese and zinc so effectively that soil applications often achieve little, whereas the leaf route works regardless.

Can I mix it with other fertilisers?
Don't mix it with nitrogen fertilisers. Apply it separately.

How is it different from a single-element chelate?
A single-element product like iron chelate or copper chelate treats one specific, identified deficiency. This supplies the whole range of trace elements in smaller doses, which makes it the right choice when you're not sure exactly what's lacking.
