Naadco Pyriforce Pyriproxyfen 100g/L 1L: Insect Growth Regulator for Whitefly & Scale

Pyriforce is an insect growth regulator (IGR) containing 100 g/L pyriproxyfen. Rather than knocking down adult pests like a conventional insecticide, it works at the source, targeting the juvenile stages, so it stops pests reproducing and prevents populations building up. It's a Group 7C chemical, well suited to horticultural crops, greenhouses and outdoor settings, and it's a smart choice for resistance management and integrated pest management (IPM) programs.

How It Works

Pyriproxyfen is a juvenile hormone mimic. It interferes with an insect's normal development so that young insects never mature into breeding adults. In practice it works several ways: it stops eggs from hatching at very low concentrations, it causes adult females to lay non-viable eggs, and it prevents larvae and nymphs from developing into adults. It has translaminar activity, moving into the leaf so it can reach eggs and juveniles on both leaf surfaces, and it can affect eggs even when they aren't directly hit by the spray.

Because it acts on immature stages rather than killing adults on contact, it doesn't give an instant knockdown. Instead it breaks the breeding cycle, which is what delivers lasting control and manages overlapping generations of pests.

What It Controls

Pyriforce is highly effective against the eggs and juveniles of a broad range of sap-sucking pests, including whiteflies (silverleaf and greenhouse whitefly), scale insects (red scale, black scale, mango scale, pink wax scale), aphids, thrips and psyllids, across crops such as cotton, tomato, capsicum, rockmelon, citrus, mango, olives and ornamentals.

How to Use

Pyriforce is mixed with water and applied as a foliar spray with thorough coverage. As a label guide:

  • Cotton (silverleaf whitefly): 500 mL/ha

  • Citrus, mango, olives (scale): 50 mL per 100 L of water

  • Tomato, capsicum, rockmelon (whitefly), field and greenhouse: as per label

Apply early, when pest numbers are still low, for best results, and follow up as directed on the label (often a second application around two weeks later). Because it targets eggs and juveniles, timing against the egg-laying period is key. Always follow the label rates and directions for your crop.

Resistance Management & IPM

Pyriproxyfen has a novel mode of action (Group 7C) with a low risk of cross-resistance to other insecticide groups, which makes it a valuable rotation partner in a resistance management program. It's also relatively gentle on many adult beneficial insects and predatory mites, since it acts on juvenile development, so it fits well into IPM systems. Rotate it with unrelated chemical groups and follow label limits on applications per crop.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the active ingredient in Pyriforce?
It contains 100 g/L pyriproxyfen, a Group 7C insect growth regulator (a juvenile hormone mimic).

How does an insect growth regulator work?
Instead of killing adult pests on contact, it disrupts insect development. It stops eggs hatching, causes adults to lay non-viable eggs, and prevents larvae and nymphs from maturing into breeding adults, which breaks the reproduction cycle and stops populations building.

What pests does it control?
The eggs and juveniles of sap-sucking pests, including whiteflies, scale insects (red, black, mango and pink wax scale), aphids, thrips and psyllids, across cotton, tomato, capsicum, rockmelon, citrus, mango, olives and ornamentals.

What are the mixing rates?
As a label guide, cotton silverleaf whitefly at 500 mL/ha, and citrus, mango and olive scale at 50 mL per 100 L of water. Always follow the label rate for your specific crop and pest.

Does it kill pests quickly?
No, and that's by design. It acts on eggs and juveniles rather than adults, so you won't see instant knockdown. Instead it prevents the next generation, giving lasting control. Apply early against low pest numbers for best results.

Is it good for resistance management?
Yes. Its novel mode of action (Group 7C) has a low risk of cross-resistance, making it an excellent partner to rotate with other chemical groups, and it fits well into IPM programs.

Is it safe for bees and beneficial insects?
It's relatively gentle on many adult beneficial insects, which is why it suits IPM. However, as a growth regulator it can affect bee brood, so don't spray flowering plants while bees are foraging. It's IPM-friendly, but not a bee-safe product.

Can I tank-mix it?
Pyriproxyfen is often combined with an adulticide (such as a neonicotinoid) to control adults while it handles the eggs and juveniles. Always check compatibility and both product labels before mixing, and note bee warnings on any partner product.
