Legion Flat Washers Kit 288 Pieces – Zinc Plated Washers in 8 Sizes, M3 to M16

Legion Flat Washers Kit, 288 Pieces in 8 Sizes

The Legion Flat Washers Kit contains 288 round, zinc plated flat washers in 8 metric sizes: M3, M4, M6, M8, M10, M12, M14 and M16. Flat washers sit under a nut or bolt head to spread the clamping load over a wider area, protecting the surface from damage and stopping the fastener from pulling into soft materials such as timber, plastic and thin sheet metal. Having all eight sizes in one kit means the right washer is on hand for most bolts in the workshop, shed or toolbox.

What a Flat Washer Actually Does

When a nut or bolt head is tightened directly against timber, plastic or a painted finish, all the force is concentrated on a small ring. That can crush the material, mark the finish or let the head sink in until the joint loosens. A flat washer spreads that force over a larger area, so the material holds up better and the surface is protected. Washers also help when a hole is slightly oversized, giving the nut or bolt head a solid surface to bear against.

Matching the Washer to the Bolt

Metric washer sizes match the bolt diameter. An M6 washer suits a 6mm bolt or screw, an M8 washer suits an 8mm bolt, and so on up to M16 for 16mm bolts. Pick the washer with the same size as your bolt so the hole fits closely around the shank. The smaller M3 and M4 washers suit small machine screws in electronics, hinges and fittings, while the larger M10 to M16 sizes suit structural bolts in sheds, trailers, gates and garden structures.

Zinc Plated for Indoor Use

These washers are zinc plated, which gives a clean silver finish and some protection against corrosion. Zinc plating is best suited to indoor jobs and sheltered areas not exposed directly to the weather. For outdoor work in the rain, near the coast or on treated timber, choose hot dip galvanised or stainless steel washers, which handle moisture far better over time.

Using Flat Washers Correctly

Fit the washer directly under the part that turns when tightening, usually the nut, so it protects the surface as the nut rotates. On soft materials like timber, use a washer under both the bolt head and the nut. Make sure the washer sits flat and centred on the hole before tightening. For joints exposed to vibration, such as on trailers, machinery or mowers, add a spring washer between the flat washer and the nut or use a nyloc nut, as a flat washer alone does not stop a nut working loose. Keep the kit closed and dry to protect the zinc plating.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Legion Flat Washers Kit 288 PCS used for?
It provides flat washers in 8 sizes for spreading the load of bolts, screws and nuts, protecting surfaces and preventing fasteners pulling into soft materials in repairs, assembly and maintenance.

How many flat washers are included in the Legion washer kit?
The kit contains 288 washers across 8 sizes, M3, M4, M6, M8, M10, M12, M14 and M16.

What are flat washers used for when fastening with screws or bolts?
They spread the clamping force over a wider area, protect the surface finish, stop the head or nut sinking into soft materials and give a solid bearing surface over oversized holes.

Do flat washers stop nuts coming loose?
No. Flat washers spread the load but do not lock the nut. For vibration, use a spring washer or a nyloc nut as well.

Can I use these washers outdoors?
Zinc plated washers are best for indoor and sheltered areas. For outdoor or coastal jobs, use galvanised or stainless steel washers.
