BASF Librel BMX 1kg: Multi-Micronutrient EDTA Chelate

Librel BMX supplies six essential trace elements in a single product. It contains EDTA chelates of copper, iron, manganese and zinc as their disodium salts, along with inorganic salts of boron and molybdenum. It's supplied as a green spray-agglomerated microgranule from BASF, and it's used for foliar application and in hydroponic and liquid feed systems.

Six Elements, One Product

Micronutrient deficiencies rarely turn up neatly one at a time. Soil conditions that lock up one trace element, high pH being the classic example, usually restrict several. Rather than buying, storing and tank-mixing four or five separate products, BMX puts the commonly required metals into one, which is simpler to handle and easier to dose.

Trace elements are needed in small quantities but they're not optional. Iron and manganese drive chlorophyll production and photosynthesis, zinc is central to enzyme function and growth hormones, copper supports protein synthesis and reproductive growth, boron is critical for flowering, pollination and fruit set, and molybdenum is needed for nitrogen metabolism. A shortage of any one of them limits the crop, no matter how well fed it is on NPK.

Why the Chelated Form Matters

This is the real difference between Librel and a plain micronutrient salt. In EDTA chelate form, each metal is held inside an organic molecule that protects it from reacting with other elements in the soil or spray tank and being locked away into an insoluble form the plant can't use. The nutrient stays available and gets taken up efficiently.

That protection shows up in practical ways:

  • Dissolves completely, even in hard or cold water, with no insoluble impurities to block filters or nozzles

  • Stable with soluble phosphates, which is where many unchelated micronutrients precipitate out

  • Compatible with a wide range of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and other crop care products, so it tank mixes conveniently

  • Crop safe, with far less risk of the leaf scorch that unchelated metal salts can cause

How to Mix

Add the powder to the water while the tank is being agitated. Do not pre-mix it into a slurry first. Keep agitating briefly to ensure it dissolves completely.

Dissolve it in a volume of water suited to your spraying machine and the crop's leaf area.

How to Spray

  • Fit the sprayer with nozzles that produce a fine mist.

  • Apply only enough solution to coat the leaves and stems with a film of moisture, with little or no run-off.

  • Spray on a calm day, and avoid strong sunshine and high temperatures. Late afternoon or evening is best.

  • Postpone spraying if rain is imminent. If rain falls within 4 hours of spraying, re-spray the crop 3 or 4 days later.

Timing: apply as necessary through the growing season, either preventatively at key growth stages or when deficiency symptoms appear. Do not apply during flowering. For transplanted crops, application before planting out and again once the crop is established in the field is a common approach.

Rates vary by crop and situation, so follow the rate in the BASF technical data sheet or on the pack for your crop.

Also for Hydroponics

Because it dissolves completely and stays stable in solution, Librel BMX is also used as a micronutrient source in hydroponics, liquid feed solutions and soilless growing systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's in Librel BMX?
EDTA chelates of copper, iron, manganese and zinc as their disodium salts, together with inorganic salts of boron and molybdenum. Six trace elements in one product.

How do I mix it?
Add the powder directly to water while the tank is agitating, and keep agitating briefly until it's fully dissolved. Don't pre-mix it into a paste or slurry first.

How do I apply it?
As a fine mist foliar spray, applying just enough to coat leaves and stems with a film of moisture without run-off. Spray on a calm day in late afternoon or evening, avoiding strong sun and high temperatures.

When should I apply it?
As needed during the growing season, either at key growth stages or when deficiency symptoms show. Do not apply during flowering.

What if it rains after spraying?
If rain is imminent, hold off. If rain falls within 4 hours of application, re-spray the crop 3 or 4 days later.

Why use a chelated micronutrient instead of a straight salt?
Chelation holds the metal in a protected form so it doesn't react and become locked up in the soil or tank. The nutrient stays plant-available, uptake is better, it's safer on foliage, and it stays stable alongside phosphates and other tank partners.

Can I tank mix it with other products?
Yes. Librel chelates are compatible with a wide range of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and other crop care products, which makes tank mixing convenient. Check compatibility for your specific combination.

Can I use it in hydroponics?
Yes. It dissolves completely and remains stable in solution, so it's suitable as a micronutrient source in hydroponics, liquid feeds and soilless systems.
