Description

Incitec Pivot MultiGro: An All-Purpose Granular Garden Fertiliser

Incitec Pivot MultiGro is an all-purpose granular NPK fertiliser that supplies nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur and calcium in one even granule. Made by Incitec Pivot Fertilisers, one of Australia's major fertiliser manufacturers, it's part of their horticulture range and suits lawns, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, shrubs, ornamentals and flowers. One bag covers most of the garden, available in sizes from 1kg up to 25kg.

What's in MultiGro?

Incitec Pivot lists MultiGro's typical analysis as:

  • Nitrogen (N) 13.31%: drives leafy growth and green colour
  • Phosphorus (P) 4.54%: supports root development and establishment
  • Potassium (K) 7.15%: helps flowering, fruiting and overall plant strength
  • Sulphur (S) 15.39%: supports protein formation and green growth
  • Calcium (Ca) 2.43%: supports cell walls and healthy new growth

Part of the nitrogen and sulphur comes from ammonium sulphate, a readily available source of both nutrients.

Fertiliser for Lawns

MultiGro's nitrogen and sulphur give lawns a strong green-up through the growing season.

  • Apply 3 to 4kg per 100m² (about 30 to 40g per m²) every 8 to 12 weeks during the growing season.
  • Extend the interval in cooler months, when grass growth slows.
  • Spread evenly, using a spreader for larger areas, and water in well straight after.

Fertiliser for Vegetables and Flowers

  • Work 2.5 to 3kg per 100m² (about 25 to 30g per m²) into the soil before planting.
  • Water in well after applying.
  • Side-dress hungry crops during the season, keeping granules off leaves and away from stems.

Fertiliser for Fruit Trees

  • Spread 150g to 1.5kg per tree, depending on the size of the tree, around the drip line.
  • Apply three times a year: early spring, mid-summer and early autumn.
  • Keep fertiliser at least 20cm away from the trunk and don't pile it in one spot.
  • Water in well after each application.

Tips for Using Granular Fertiliser

  • Always water in: watering moves nutrients into the root zone and reduces the risk of leaf and root burn.
  • Don't over-apply: more fertiliser isn't better. Excess can burn lawns and roots and wash into waterways.
  • Watch soil pH: the ammonium sulphate in MultiGro can make soil slightly more acidic over time. On already acidic soils, a dressing of garden lime or dolomite helps balance it.
  • Phosphorus-sensitive natives: avoid using MultiGro on grevilleas, banksias and other phosphorus-sensitive plants.

Safety and Storage

Fertiliser can irritate the eyes and sensitive skin and is corrosive to metals. Wear gloves, avoid breathing dust and wash your hands after use. Store the bag sealed in a cool, dry place, as moisture causes granules to clump.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Incitec Pivot MultiGro?

It's an all-purpose granular fertiliser from Incitec Pivot Fertilisers that supplies nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur and calcium for lawns, vegetables, fruit trees and gardens.

What is the NPK of Incitec Pivot MultiGro?

Incitec Pivot lists it as N 13.31%, P 4.54% and K 7.15%, plus sulphur 15.39% and calcium 2.43%.

How much MultiGro do I put on my lawn?

Apply 3 to 4kg per 100m², about 30 to 40g per square metre, every 8 to 12 weeks during the growing season, and water in well.

How much MultiGro do fruit trees need?

Spread 150g to 1.5kg per tree, depending on size, around the drip line, in early spring, mid-summer and early autumn. Keep it at least 20cm from the trunk.

Can I use MultiGro on vegetables?

Yes. Work 2.5 to 3kg per 100m² into the soil before planting, then water in well.

What is the best all-purpose fertiliser for the garden?

A good all-purpose fertiliser supplies a balance of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, plus sulphur and other nutrients, in an easy-to-spread form that suits lawns, vegetables and fruit trees. Choose one with a clear analysis and application rates, and test your soil if you have ongoing problems.

Is MultiGro suitable for Australian natives?

Not for phosphorus-sensitive natives such as grevilleas and banksias. Use a native-specific fertiliser for those plants.
