Description
Description
SoluPotasse: Water Soluble Sulphate of Potash Fertiliser
SoluPotasse is a water-soluble sulphate of potash (SOP), also known as potassium sulphate (K₂SO₄), made by Tessenderlo in Belgium. It's a high-analysis, chloride-free fertiliser that supplies about 50% potassium as K₂O (around 42% K) and about 45% sulphur as SO₃ (around 18% S). The fine white powder dissolves fully in water, making it ideal for fertigation and foliar feeding, and it can also be applied to soil. Available in 1kg, 2kg, 4kg and 25kg.
What Is Sulphate of Potash Used For?
Sulphate of potash supplies two nutrients in one:
- Potassium: boosts flowering and fruit development, fruit size, colour and sugar content, strengthens cell walls, and improves resistance to drought, heat and fungal disease.
- Sulphur: in the readily available sulphate form, supports enzyme and protein synthesis and healthy green growth.
It's used to improve yield and quality in fruit, vegetables and flowers, especially from flowering through to harvest.
What Plants Is Sulphate of Potash Good For?
- Fruiting vegetables: tomatoes, capsicums, chillies, cucumbers and melons
- Fruit trees and vines: citrus, stone fruit, avocados, grapes and berries
- Root crops: potatoes, carrots and onions
- Flowering plants: roses, flowering shrubs and annuals
- Chloride-sensitive crops: citrus, berries, avocados and stone fruit, where muriate of potash (MOP) can burn roots
Sulphate of Potash vs Muriate of Potash
Muriate of potash (MOP, potassium chloride) is a cheaper potassium source, but its chloride can damage sensitive crops and it has a high salt index. Sulphate of potash is chloride-free and has a low salt index, so it doesn't build up soil salinity. That makes SOP the better choice for sensitive crops, saline or sodic soils, and areas with poor-quality irrigation water. SOP also adds sulphur, which MOP doesn't.
Is Sulphate of Potash Water Soluble?
SoluPotasse is a water-soluble grade that dissolves completely, leaving virtually no residue, so it suits drip and fertigation systems. Like all SOP, it's less soluble than potassium nitrate, so dissolve it in plenty of water, use warmer water where possible, and stir well. Granular sulphate of potash sold for gardens is designed for soil use and isn't suited to fertigation.
How to Use SoluPotasse
Home garden (soil application):
- Vegetables and flowers: about 20g per square metre.
- Fruit trees: about 50g per square metre, spread evenly under the canopy.
- Water in well after applying.
Fertigation and foliar:
- Dissolve SoluPotasse fully in water before adding any other fertilisers.
- Apply through drip, micro-sprinkler, sprinkler or pivot systems.
- Use as a dilute foliar spray to correct potassium needs quickly.
- Fit filters in irrigation systems, as for any soluble fertiliser.
- Match rates to your crop, growth stage and a soil or leaf test.
Don't Mix with Calcium Fertilisers
Never mix SoluPotasse in the same tank with calcium fertilisers such as calcium nitrate, as they form calcium sulphate (gypsum) that settles out and blocks drippers. Keep calcium in a separate tank or apply it separately.
Storage
SoluPotasse absorbs moisture from the air, so keep the bag sealed in a cool, dry place to prevent caking. Wear gloves and eye protection when handling the powder.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is SoluPotasse used for?
It's a water-soluble sulphate of potash that supplies potassium and sulphur through fertigation, foliar sprays or soil application, especially for fruit, vegetables and chloride-sensitive crops.
What is the analysis of SoluPotasse sulphate of potash?
About 50% potassium as K₂O (around 42% K) and about 45% sulphur as SO₃ (around 18% S), with virtually no chloride or nitrate.
What is potassium sulphate fertiliser used for?
It's used to boost flowering, fruit size, colour and quality, strengthen plants against drought and disease, and add sulphur, without adding chloride.
What plants need high potassium fertiliser?
Fruiting vegetables, fruit trees, vines, berries, root crops and flowering plants, especially during flowering and fruit development.
Is sulphate of potash water soluble?
SoluPotasse is a fully water-soluble grade suited to fertigation. Granular garden SOP is mainly for soil application.
How much sulphate of potash should I use?
As a general guide, about 20g per square metre for vegetables and flowers, and about 50g per square metre under fruit trees. Water in well.
Why choose sulphate of potash over muriate of potash?
SOP is chloride-free with a low salt index, so it's safer for sensitive crops and saline soils, and it supplies sulphur as well as potassium.
Where can I buy SoluPotasse sulphate of potash in Australia?
