Glyphosate 450 Herbicide 20L: Liquid Concentrate Weed Killer for Large Areas

Glyphosate 450 is a concentrated, systemic herbicide for controlling a broad spectrum of weeds, including annual and perennial grasses, broadleaf weeds and stubborn woody plants. It contains 450 g/L glyphosate and is a Group M (Group 9) herbicide, the same widely used active found in products like Roundup, in a higher-strength 450 formulation. This 20L drum is the commercial size, made for farmers, contractors and land managers covering large areas.

It works by being absorbed through the leaves and green stems, then translocating through the whole plant and down into the roots. That's what gives complete control of the entire plant rather than just burning off the top growth, and it's why glyphosate is effective on established perennial weeds. The concentrated 450 formula means less product per tank compared with a 360 formulation, delivering strong value across agricultural, forestry and industrial weed control.

No Soil Residual

It's worth being clear on one point, because it's often misunderstood: glyphosate is inactivated as soon as it contacts the soil and provides no residual weed control. This is actually one of its strengths. Because it leaves no lasting residue in the ground, treated areas can be replanted or sown once the existing weeds have died off (the one exception being that it shouldn't be used immediately before transplanting tomato seedlings). If you specifically need long-term residual weed prevention, glyphosate needs to be tank-mixed with a suitable residual herbicide, or you'd choose a different product for that job.

How to Use

Glyphosate 450 mixes readily with clean water. For knapsack or handgun spraying, a general rate is around 8 to 9 mL per litre of water for many common weeds, increasing for larger, perennial or woody weeds. For boom spraying and specific weeds, follow the label's weeds-controlled tables. When spraying in high volume, adding a non-ionic wetting agent (around 200 mL per 100 L of spray) improves uptake.

For best results, spray when weeds are healthy and actively growing, not stressed by drought, frost or waterlogging. Avoid spraying if rain is likely within 6 hours, and don't disturb treated weeds for at least 1 day (annual weeds) or 7 days (perennial weeds) so the chemical can fully translocate. Use clean water, as dirty or hard water can reduce glyphosate's effectiveness. Visible effects typically show in 3 to 7 days on annual weeds and 2 to 3 weeks on perennials.

Important

Glyphosate will damage or kill any green plant it contacts, including lawns, gardens, crops and desirable plants. Keep spray and drift off anything you want to keep. Don't apply to weeds growing in or over water, and don't allow spray to enter waterways.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the active ingredient in Glyphosate 450?
It contains 450 g/L glyphosate, a Group M (EPSP synthase inhibitor) herbicide, in a systemic liquid concentrate.

How much Glyphosate 450 do I use per litre of water?
For knapsack or handgun spraying, a general guide is around 8 to 9 mL per litre of water for common weeds, using more for perennial and woody weeds. A non-ionic wetter is recommended for high-volume spraying. Always follow the label rate for your target weed.

How long does Glyphosate 450 take to work?
Visible effects usually appear in 3 to 7 days on annual weeds and 2 to 3 weeks on perennial weeds, and can be slower in cool or cloudy conditions.

What is the difference between glyphosate 450 and 540?
The number is the glyphosate concentration per litre: 450 g/L versus 540 g/L. The 540 is more concentrated, so you use slightly less product for the same amount of active ingredient. Both work the same way, and higher-load formulations like 540 often use a potassium salt for better handling.

Does Glyphosate 450 have soil residual?
No. It's inactivated on contact with soil and provides no residual control. That means treated areas can be replanted once the weeds have died (apart from transplanting tomato seedlings). For residual control, it must be tank-mixed with a suitable residual herbicide.

Will Glyphosate 450 kill my lawn and crops?
Yes. It will kill or damage any green plant it contacts, including lawn grass, crops and garden plants. Use it only where you intend to remove all vegetation sprayed, and avoid drift onto plants you want to keep.

Can I use it before planting?
Yes. Because it leaves no soil residue, it's commonly used to clear weeds before sowing or planting, with the exception of transplanting tomato seedlings.
