Description

Avigrain Wild Bird Mix 20kg: Coarse Seed and Grain Blend for Backyard Birds

Avigrain Wild Bird Mix is a coarse blend of seeds and grains put together to attract seed-eating wild birds to your backyard. It's the "For the Rebel in Your Backyard" mix, made up of wheat, sorghum, corn, oats, black sunflower, peas, safflower, grey sunflower and/or millet, a diverse combination that appeals to a range of granivorous birds like parrots and other seed-eaters. This is the bulk 20kg bag, and Avigrain is a 100% Australian owned family business that's been making bird seed since 1987.

The mix is colourful and full of the seeds that tempt birds in, particularly the sunflower that granivorous species love. It's designed as a low-cost mix to bring birds to your garden for the enjoyment of watching them, rather than as a nutritionally complete diet.

What's In It

  • Wheat, sorghum, corn and oats (coarse cereal grains)
  • Black sunflower and grey sunflower
  • Peas, safflower and/or millet
  • A diverse blend that appeals to a range of seed-eating wild birds

Feeding Wild Birds Responsibly

Avigrain is upfront that this mix is made to attract birds for your enjoyment, not to feed them as their main food source. In most parts of Australia, native birds are more than capable of finding their own food, so this is a supplementary treat rather than something they depend on. A few points worth keeping in mind:

  • It's designed to attract birds, not to be a complete or important source of nutrition
  • Native birds can feed themselves, so use it for the pleasure of watching them
  • Offer it in reasonable amounts rather than large volumes
  • You can also support local birdlife by planting native trees for food and shelter and providing a clean, fresh water source

How to Use It

Put the mix out on a bird table, in a feeder, or on a clean feeding spot where you can watch the birds come in. Offer modest amounts and let the birds clear it rather than leaving large piles out, and keep the feeding area and any feeders clean, refreshing them regularly, since dirty or damp feeding spots and old seed can spread disease between birds. Provide clean, fresh water nearby, which often attracts as many birds as the seed does. Store the bag sealed in a cool, dry place to keep it fresh and free of pests.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's in Avigrain Wild Bird Mix?
It contains wheat, sorghum, corn, oats, black sunflower, peas, safflower, grey sunflower and/or millet, a coarse seed and grain blend for seed-eating wild birds.

What birds does it attract?
Seed-eating (granivorous) wild birds, including parrots and other species drawn to sunflower and grain.

Is it a complete diet for wild birds?
No. Avigrain is clear that it's made to attract birds for your enjoyment, not as their main food source. Native birds are able to feed themselves.

Can I feed it to my caged or aviary birds?
No. It's a wild bird attracting mix and isn't suitable as a diet for caged or aviary birds, which need a proper species-appropriate mix.

How should I offer it?
On a bird table, feeder or clean feeding spot in modest amounts, with fresh water nearby. Keep feeding areas clean and refresh them regularly.

Where can I buy Avigrain Wild Bird Mix 20kg in Australia?
It's available from BPG Supplies (Bonnyrigg Produce & Garden Supplies), with local pickup in Bonnyrigg NSW and delivery across Australia.
