Vetafarm Triple C 500g: Broad-Spectrum Antibiotic Powder for Ornamental Birds
Vetafarm Triple C is a broad-spectrum antibiotic powder for ornamental birds, used to treat bacterial infections when a bird becomes unwell. It's a common "first line" option where a bird is clearly sick but an exact diagnosis isn't available yet, and it can be given through drinking water or mixed into food. This 500g tub suits breeders and larger aviaries that go through more product.
The active constituent is chlortetracycline hydrochloride (100mg/g). Despite the name, Triple C contains this single active; the "Triple C" refers to the three common bird conditions it targets, being E. coli (enteritis), Mycoplasma (chronic respiratory disease) and Chlamydia (psittacosis).
It's an easy-to-use powder that dissolves in water or mixes through food, which makes it practical for treating individual birds or a whole aviary. It's intended for pet and ornamental birds only, not for birds whose meat or eggs are for human consumption.

FAQs
What is Vetafarm Triple C used for?
It's a broad-spectrum antibiotic powder for treating bacterial infections in ornamental birds, including E. coli (enteritis), Mycoplasma (chronic respiratory disease) and Chlamydia (psittacosis). It's often used as a first-line treatment when the exact cause isn't yet known.
What is the active ingredient in Triple C?
The active constituent is chlortetracycline hydrochloride at 100mg/g. It contains this single active, not three, and it is not a vitamin C supplement.
What is the correct dosage?
In water, it's 5.0g per litre for parrots and 2.5g per litre for finches and pigeons. In food, it's 5.0g per kg of dry food or 10g per kg of hand-rearing food. Prepare fresh solutions daily and follow the label.
Can I use it on chickens or birds kept for eggs or meat?
No. Triple C is not to be used on birds intended for human consumption, so it isn't suitable for poultry kept for eggs or meat.
Do I need to change anything in my bird's diet during treatment?
Yes. Calcium reduces the antibiotic's effectiveness, so remove calcium sources such as supplements, shell grit and cuttlefish bone during treatment, then reintroduce them gradually. A probiotic afterwards helps restore gut flora.
Where can I buy Vetafarm Triple C in Australia?
Order online for delivery across Australia, or pick up in-store at Bonnyrigg, NSW.
