Searles Trifend Complete Garden Spray 1L: Triple-Action Rose and Ornamental Spray
Searles Trifend is a triple-action garden spray that tackles insects, mites and fungal disease in one bottle, which makes it a handy all-rounder for roses and ornamentals. The 1L pack is ready to use, so there's no mixing or measuring. You just shake and spray. It's built for flowering plants, ornamental gardens, and indoor and outdoor pot plants, and it's worth knowing up front that it's not for use on edible plants.
What It Controls
Trifend covers three jobs at once:
Insects, including aphids, thrips, whitefly, budworm and earworm caterpillars. Fungal diseases, including black spot, rust and powdery mildew, which are the usual troublemakers on roses. And two-spotted mite, a common pest of roses and many other ornamentals. That combination is why it suits a rose bush that's dealing with aphids and black spot at the same time, letting you treat both in a single pass.
How the Triple Action Works
The two active constituents are tau-fluvalinate at 9.6 g/L and myclobutanil at 4.4 g/L, and it's worth understanding what each does because they don't all work the same way.
The fungicide side, myclobutanil, is systemic. It's absorbed into the plant and moves through its tissue, so it gives longer-lasting protection against fungal disease and can reach into new growth rather than just coating the surface. The insect control, tau-fluvalinate, works differently: it kills insects by contact and by stomach action, so pests are hit when the spray lands on them or when they feed on treated leaves. The same active handles two-spotted mite. So the disease control is systemic, while the insect and mite control is contact and stomach action, which is why thorough spray coverage still matters for the pest side.
How to Use It
Shake the bottle well, then spray evenly over the plant, covering both the upper and lower surfaces of the leaves where pests and disease take hold. As a ready-to-use spray, there's nothing to dilute. Spray in the cool of the early morning or late afternoon rather than the heat of the day, and reapply as needed in line with the label directions for the pest or disease you're treating.
Not for Use on Edible Plants
This is important to get right. Trifend is registered for ornamentals and roses only, and it is not suitable for use on any edible plants, including vegetables, fruit trees and herbs. If you need something for pests or disease on food crops, this isn't the product for that job, so keep it to the ornamental side of the garden.
Using It Safely and Protecting Bees
Since Trifend is used on roses and flowering ornamentals that bees visit, spray when bees aren't active, in the early morning or evening, and avoid spraying open flowers that bees are working. Keep children and pets out of the sprayed area until the spray has dried, avoid spraying in windy conditions, and wash your hands after use. Store it somewhere cool and dry, out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does Searles Trifend control?
Insects such as aphids, thrips, whitefly, budworm and earworm caterpillars, the fungal diseases black spot, rust and powdery mildew, and two-spotted mite. It handles all three in one spray.
What are the active ingredients?
Tau-fluvalinate at 9.6 g/L, which handles the insects and mites, and myclobutanil at 4.4 g/L, a systemic fungicide for disease control.
Is Trifend systemic?
The fungicide side is. Myclobutanil is absorbed into the plant and moves through it for longer-lasting disease protection. The insect and mite control works by contact and stomach action rather than systemically, so good spray coverage still matters.
Can I use it on vegetables, fruit or herbs?
No. Trifend is for ornamentals and roses only, and it is not suitable for use on edible plants of any kind.
How do I use the 1L pack?
It's ready to use, so just shake and spray, covering both sides of the leaves. Spray in the cool of the early morning or late afternoon and reapply as directed.
What plants can I use it on?
Roses and other ornamentals, including shrubs, flowering plants, ornamental gardens, and indoor and outdoor pot plants.
Is it safe for bees?
As it's used on flowering plants, spray only when bees aren't active and avoid open flowers they're visiting. Applying early morning or evening lets it dry before bees are about.
Where can I buy Searles Trifend in Australia?
You can buy the 1L ready-to-use pack from BPG Supplies, shipped Australia-wide.
