Richgro Bug Killa 250g: Granular Systemic Insecticide for Roses, Azaleas and Ornamental Plants

Richgro Bug Killa: A Granular Systemic Insecticide for Ornamentals

Richgro Bug Killa is a ready-to-use granular systemic insecticide containing 70g/kg imidacloprid. Sprinkled onto moist soil and watered in, it's absorbed through the roots, making the plant itself toxic to listed sap-sucking pests and scarab beetle larvae that feed on it. It gives at least two months of systemic protection for roses, azaleas, camellias, gardenias, magnolias, lilly pillies and other ornamental plants in pots and garden beds. The 250g pack treats up to 500 plants, with no spraying or mixing. It also contains iron and zeolite.

What Is a Systemic Insecticide?

A systemic insecticide is absorbed into a plant and carried through its sap. Instead of killing insects only where it's sprayed, it protects the whole plant from the inside, so pests feeding on leaves, stems and new growth are controlled, including those hiding under leaves or inside curled foliage. A granular systemic insecticide is a solid form applied to the soil that dissolves when watered and is taken up through the roots.

How Does Richgro Bug Killa Work?

Once watered in, the granules release imidacloprid into the root zone. The roots absorb it and move it through the plant. When sap-sucking insects feed, they take in the insecticide and are controlled. Because it works through the plant, visible control can take up to two weeks, depending on the pest and how heavy the infestation is.

Pests Controlled

• Azalea lace bug
• Aphids
• Mealybugs
• Scale insects
• Psyllids
• Scarab beetle larvae

Use only on the ornamental plants and pests listed on the current label.

How to Apply to Potted Ornamentals

• Make sure the potting mix is moist.
• Measure the pot diameter and use the measuring cap:
• 100 to 200mm pots: 2.5mL
• 201 to 250mm pots: 5mL
• 251 to 300mm pots: 10mL
• 350mm pots: 10mL for plants up to 1 metre high
• 400mm pots: 15mL for plants up to 1 metre high
• Taller plants: add 5mL for each extra metre of height
• Sprinkle evenly over the soil surface, away from the stem.
• Water in straight away, but don't saturate the pot, as excess water can wash the product out.

How to Apply to Garden Plants

• Remove mulch and dead material from around the plant.
• Moisten the soil before applying.
• Apply 10g per plant up to 1 metre high, plus 6g for each extra metre.
• Spread evenly around the drip zone, lightly rake into the top layer of soil if you like, and water thoroughly.
• Reapply only if pests return, and no more than twice in 12 months.

Ornamentals Only

Richgro Bug Killa is registered for ornamental plants only. Don't use it on vegetables, herbs, fruit trees or other edible plants, and don't apply it to lawns. For lawn grubs, use a product registered for turf.

Protecting Bees

Imidacloprid is a Group 4A neonicotinoid. Because it moves through the plant, it can reach the pollen and nectar of flowering plants that bees visit. Avoid treating plants while they're in flower and visited by bees, apply after flowering where possible, and use only when pests are present.

Safety

Avoid breathing dust and contact with skin and eyes. Wear gloves when applying and wash your hands afterwards. Keep children and pets away from the granules, and water them in so they're not left on the surface. Keep out of ponds, drains and waterways. Store sealed in a cool, dry place, away from food and animal feed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Richgro Bug Killa used for?

It controls aphids, azalea lace bug, mealybugs, scale, psyllids and scarab beetle larvae on ornamental plants in pots and garden beds.

How long does it take for Richgro Bug Killa to work?

Visible control can take up to two weeks, as the plant needs time to absorb the insecticide. Protection then lasts at least two months.

What is a systemic insecticide?

It's an insecticide absorbed into the plant and carried through its sap, so insects feeding anywhere on the plant are controlled.

How does systemic insecticide work?

The plant takes up the insecticide through its roots or leaves and moves it through the sap. Sap-sucking pests take it in as they feed.

What is granular insecticide used for?

Granular insecticides are sprinkled onto soil and watered in. Systemic granules like Bug Killa protect plants from the inside, without spraying.

What is the best insecticide for ornamental plants?

For ongoing sap-sucker problems on roses, azaleas and camellias, a systemic granule gives long protection without spraying. For quick knockdown of visible pests, a contact spray may suit better. Choose a product registered for your plant and pest.

Can Richgro Bug Killa be used on vegetables or lawns?

No. It's registered for ornamental plants only, not for edibles or lawns.
