Description

RATSAK Double Strength Bait Station 2.5kg: Ready-to-Use Rat and Mouse Control

RATSAK Double Strength is a ready-to-use pellet bait that kills both rats and mice, supplied in a no-touch bait station so you never have to handle the bait itself. You tear back the flap, place the station where you've seen rodent activity, and top it up until the feeding stops. The 2.5kg pack covers a decent-sized problem and lets you run several stations at once, which is how you actually clear an infestation rather than just knocking the numbers back.

It uses the original trusted RATSAK formula, built around warfarin, and it's designed to reduce the chance of secondary poisoning to pets and wildlife compared with the faster-acting second-generation baits.

No Handling the Bait

The pack works as the bait station itself. Push the tab, tear back the flap to expose the bait, and it's ready. If you'd rather use your own containers, you can pour the pellets out and set them in lots of 25g for mice or 125g for rats. Either way, you're not touching pellets directly, which suits anyone baiting a kitchen, shed, roof cavity or chook shed.

Why It's a Multiple-Feed Bait

This is the part worth understanding, because it explains how you use it. The active ingredient, warfarin, is a first-generation anticoagulant. Rodents need to feed on it repeatedly over several days for the dose to build up, rather than dying from a single feed. That's why the label tells you to keep an uninterrupted supply going for at least 14 days and to check stations every 1 to 2 days, topping them up until all feeding stops. If the bait runs out halfway through, the rodents that were feeding can recover, so keeping it topped up is what actually gets the result.

Lower Risk to Pets and Wildlife

Warfarin breaks down faster in the body and is less persistent than the second-generation actives like brodifacoum found in fast-action baits. That means if a pet or a native bird eats a rodent that has taken the bait, the secondary poisoning risk is lower. It's the reason a lot of wildlife-conscious households, and even some wildlife groups, prefer a first-generation bait like this one where baiting is unavoidable.

Worth being clear though: this is about secondary poisoning. The bait is still toxic if a dog, cat or child eats the pellets directly, so the station still needs to go somewhere they can't reach.

How to Set It Up

Place stations where there are signs of rodent activity, along walls or rafters and in dark, sheltered spots. Keep them under cover, not out in the open. Don't exceed 3m between stations for mice or 9m for rats. Several smaller stations give better mouse control, while rats are better handled with larger stations in one or two spots. Bait the whole area at the same time rather than piecemeal.

Handy Rodent Control Tips

Clear away other food sources as much as you can, so the bait is the easiest meal going. Write down how many stations you've set and where, so you can top them up and collect them later. Keep the supply uninterrupted for the full 14 days, and don't stop the moment you see a drop in activity, wait until feeding has completely ceased.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the active ingredient in RATSAK Double Strength?
Warfarin, a first-generation anticoagulant. It works by preventing the rodent's blood from clotting, and takes repeated feeds over several days rather than a single feed.

Does it kill both rats and mice?
Yes. The same bait handles both, you just adjust station size and spacing (smaller, more frequent stations for mice, larger stations for rats).

Is it safer for pets and wildlife than other rat baits?
It carries a lower secondary poisoning risk, meaning the risk to a pet or bird that eats a poisoned rodent is lower than with fast-action second-generation baits. It's still toxic if a pet or child eats the pellets directly, so keep the station out of their reach.

How long does it take to work?
Because it's a multiple-feed bait, rodents feed on it over several days before it takes effect. Keep the bait available continuously for at least 14 days and check stations every 1 to 2 days, topping up until all feeding stops.

Do I have to touch the bait?
No. The pack is a ready-to-use station, you just push the tab and tear the flap to expose the bait.

How far apart should I place the bait stations?
No more than 3m apart for mice, or 9m apart for rats. Keep them under cover and never out in the open.

What should I do if my dog or cat eats the bait?
Contact your vet straight away and take the label or pack with you. Warfarin poisoning has an established antidote (vitamin K1) that vets can administer, and acting quickly makes a real difference.

Where can I buy RATSAK Double Strength in Australia?
You can buy the 2.5kg bait station from BPG Supplies, shipped Australia-wide.
