Rally C-Clips: Galvanised Netting Clips for Wire, Mesh and Fencing
Rally C-Clips, also known as hog rings or netting clips, are fast, durable fasteners used to join wire netting, mesh, cat netting and poultry fencing, and to fix them to support wires and cables. Each galvanised steel clip measures 16mm x 2mm, the standard size for general wire fencing, aviaries, animal cages and garden mesh. Squeezed closed with hog ring pliers, the C-shaped clip wraps tightly around the wires for a strong, permanent join that's much quicker and neater than twisting wire by hand.
What Clips Are Used for Wire Netting?
Wire netting is usually joined with C-clips (hog rings), like these. They're used to:
- Join panels of chicken wire, aviary mesh and weldmesh
- Fix netting to plain or barbed fence line wires
- Attach cat netting and bird netting to tensioned support wire
- Build and repair animal pens, hutches, chicken runs and cages
- Assemble wire traps and gabion baskets
These are netting clips for wire, not circlips or retaining rings used on machinery shafts.
How to Fit C-Clips
- Line up the two wires you want to join, or the netting and the support wire.
- Load an open C-clip into the jaws of hog ring pliers.
- Place the clip over both wires and squeeze the pliers until the clip closes into a tight ring.
- Space clips evenly along the join. For cat and bird netting on support wire, about every 100mm, or 10 clips per metre, helps stop sagging.
- Add extra clips where the join takes load, such as corners and gates.
- Wear gloves and eye protection when working with wire.
Standard pliers won't close the clip into a tight, even ring, so use proper hog ring or netting clip pliers.
Using C-Clips in Aviaries and Bird Cages
C-clips give neat, secure joins in aviary mesh, without loose wire ends that can catch birds. Galvanised steel contains zinc, and parrots that chew wire can ingest zinc, which is harmful to birds. Before birds move in, scrub new galvanised mesh and clips with a mild vinegar solution, rinse well and let it weather. Where you can, fit clips on the outside of the aviary, away from beaks.
Galvanised for Outdoor Use
The galvanised coating resists rust, so joins hold up outdoors on fence lines, runs and garden structures exposed to rain and weather.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are Rally C-Clips used for?
They join and secure wire netting, mesh and fencing, and fix cat netting, bird netting and chicken wire to support wires. They're popular for aviaries, chicken runs, animal pens and cages.
Do I need special pliers for Rally C-Clips?
Yes. Use hog ring or netting clip pliers, which close the clip into a tight, even ring. Standard pliers won't give a secure join.
What clips are used for wire netting?
C-clips, also called hog rings or netting clips, are the standard fastener for joining wire netting and fixing it to fence wires.
What are netting clips used for?
Netting clips fasten netting to wire or join two pieces of mesh together, for fencing, aviaries, chicken runs, cat enclosures and bird netting.
How far apart should netting clips be?
For cat and bird netting on support wire, about every 100mm, or 10 clips per metre. Add more at corners and where the netting takes load.
Are galvanised C-clips safe for aviaries?
They're widely used in aviaries. Because galvanised steel contains zinc, scrub new clips and mesh with a mild vinegar solution and rinse before birds move in, and fit clips outside where possible.
Are C-clips the same as circlips?
No. These are netting clips for joining wire. Circlips are retaining rings used on shafts and machinery.
