Description
Pyriforce Insect Growth Regulator with 100g/L Pyriproxyfen
Naadco Pyriforce is an insect growth regulator containing 100g/L pyriproxyfen, made by New Australia Agricultural Development Company. Rather than knocking down adult pests like a conventional insecticide, this pyriproxyfen insecticide targets eggs and juvenile stages, stopping pests from reproducing and preventing populations from building up. It is a Group 7C insecticide registered for the control of silverleaf whitefly in cotton, silverleaf and greenhouse whitefly in tomato and capsicum, and various scale insects in citrus, as set out in the Directions for Use table.
How Pyriproxyfen Works
Pyriproxyfen is a juvenile hormone analogue. It mimics the natural juvenile hormone that controls insect development, so immature insects never mature into reproducing adults. It prevents eggs from hatching, causes treated adult females to lay non-viable eggs, and stops nymphs from developing into adults. It also has translaminar activity, moving into the leaf to reach eggs and juveniles on both leaf surfaces.
Slow but Lasting Control
Because an insect growth regulator acts on development rather than killing adults on contact, there is no instant knockdown. Visible population drops typically take around 3 to 14 days as the next generation fails to develop. The benefit is lasting control of overlapping generations, which is especially valuable against fast-breeding pests like whitefly.
Whitefly and Scale Control
Silverleaf whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Biotype B) is a major pest of cotton and vegetable crops, and greenhouse whitefly is common in protected cropping. Scale insects are a persistent problem in citrus. Pyriforce targets the eggs and nymphs of these pests, so it works best applied early when pest numbers are still low, timed against egg-laying.
Resistance Management and IPM
Group 7C has a different mode of action from most other insecticide groups, which makes pyriproxyfen a useful rotation partner in a resistance management program. Because it acts on immature stages, adult natural enemies are less directly affected, so it can fit into integrated pest management programs. It can still affect the immature stages of some beneficial insects, so rotate it with unrelated groups and follow label limits on applications.
How to Use
Pyriforce is mixed with water and applied as a foliar spray with thorough coverage of both leaf surfaces. As a label guide, silverleaf whitefly in cotton is treated at 500mL/ha, and scale in citrus at 50mL per 100L of water. Rates for tomato and capsicum and follow-up timing are set out on the label. Always follow the label rate and directions for your crop and pest.
Safety
- Bees: as a growth regulator, pyriproxyfen can affect bee brood. Do not spray flowering plants while bees are foraging
- Waterways: can harm aquatic invertebrates. Do not contaminate streams, rivers, dams or drains
- Contains a liquid hydrocarbon solvent, so keep away from heat and flames
- Wear the protective equipment listed on the label and read the attached leaflet before use

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Naadco Pyriforce used for?
Naadco Pyriforce is used to control silverleaf whitefly in cotton, silverleaf and greenhouse whitefly in tomato and capsicum, and various scale insects in citrus, as specified in the Directions for Use table on the label.
What is the active ingredient in Pyriforce?
Pyriforce contains 100g/L pyriproxyfen, a Group 7C insect growth regulator that mimics juvenile hormone, with a liquid hydrocarbon solvent.
Is pyriproxyfen an insect growth regulator?
Yes. Pyriproxyfen is a juvenile hormone analogue, a type of insect growth regulator that stops immature insects from maturing into reproducing adults.
Do insect growth regulators work?
Yes, but they work differently from contact insecticides. They do not kill adults quickly. Instead, they break the breeding cycle, with visible population drops usually taking around 3 to 14 days, and give lasting control of overlapping generations.
What is the best insect growth regulator for whitefly?
The best insect growth regulator depends on the pest and crop, and it must be registered for that use. For silverleaf whitefly in cotton, tomato and capsicum, pyriproxyfen is widely used because it targets eggs and nymphs and fits well into rotation programs.
Can I tank-mix it with another insecticide?
Insect growth regulators are often combined with an adulticide to control existing adults while the IGR handles eggs and juveniles. Only mix products as permitted on both labels, check compatibility first and observe bee warnings on any partner product.
