Hanging Solar Lantern – Vintage Tree of Life Metal LED Lantern, Waterproof Outdoor

Vintage Metal Solar Lantern: Warm Light and Beautiful Shadows

This hanging solar lantern pairs a classic black metal design with a detailed tree of life cut-out pattern. At night, the warm LED inside shines through the pattern, casting soft, golden shapes of branches and roots across the ground, walls and surrounding plants. Hang it from a tree branch, shepherd's hook or pergola, or set it on a table, step or garden path for an instant touch of cosy, rustic charm.

Light That Creates a Mood

Most garden lights simply glow. This lantern turns the space around it into part of the display, with the cut-out design throwing intricate patterns that change as you move around it. It's ideal for creating a relaxed atmosphere on a balcony or patio, lighting up a quiet reading corner, or adding warmth to outdoor dinners, weddings and garden parties.

Charges by Day, Glows by Night

A solar panel in the lid charges a built-in rechargeable battery during the day, and the lantern switches on automatically at dusk. With enough sunlight, it can glow for 10 to 12 hours, with a full charge taking around 6 to 8 hours of sun. There's no wiring, no power point and no running costs, so you can hang it anywhere that gets sunshine.

Hang It or Stand It

The sturdy metal handle makes it easy to hang from branches, hooks, verandah beams or fence brackets, and the flat base lets it sit neatly on tables, steps, walls and garden beds. Group several lanterns at different heights for a layered look along a path or around an outdoor seating area. It also makes a thoughtful gift for gardeners and anyone who loves outdoor entertaining.

Are Vintage Metal Solar Lanterns Rustproof?

Metal lanterns are made to handle outdoor weather, and the IP65 rating means the light itself is protected against rain. However, no painted metal is completely rustproof. Over time, scratches or chips in the finish, constant moisture and salty coastal air can lead to spots of surface rust, which some people like as part of the vintage look. To keep your lantern looking its best, hang it where it can dry out after rain, wipe it down occasionally, and touch up any chips with outdoor metal paint. In coastal areas or long rainy spells, a covered verandah or pergola will help it last longer.

Getting the Best Glow

Position the lantern so the solar panel on top gets direct sun for most of the day. If you want to hang it in a shady spot, move it into the sun to charge during the day and hang it back in place at night. Keep the panel clean, and expect shorter glow times in winter and after cloudy weather. To see the full shadow effect, hang it near a wall, fence or over paving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are vintage metal solar lanterns completely rustproof outdoors?
No painted metal is completely rustproof. The lantern handles rain well, but scratches, constant moisture and coastal air can cause surface rust over time. Letting it dry out, wiping it down and touching up chips helps it last.

How long does the lantern stay lit?
With enough sunlight, it glows for up to 10 to 12 hours.

Does it need batteries?
It has a built-in rechargeable battery that the solar panel charges during the day, so you don't need to buy or change batteries for everyday use.

Can I use it on a table?
Yes. The flat base lets it stand on tables, steps and garden walls, or you can hang it by the handle.

Is it waterproof?
Yes. It's rated IP65, so it's protected against rain. Don't submerge it.

Where can I buy a hanging solar lantern in Australia?
