Mudgee High Grade Dolomite 25kg: Soil Conditioner & pH Neutraliser
Mudgee High Grade Dolomite is a 100% natural soil conditioner used to correct acid soils while supplying two essential nutrients, calcium and magnesium, in one product. It is a finely ground dolomitic limestone, proudly Australian owned and operated, with a high neutralising value that makes it an effective, reliable way to raise soil pH in gardens, lawns, orchards and crops. Most Australian soils tend towards acidic, and acidity locks up nutrients and holds plants back, so a quality dolomite is one of the most useful soil amendments a gardener or grower can keep on hand.
What makes dolomite different from ordinary garden lime is the magnesium. Standard lime supplies calcium and raises pH, but dolomite delivers both calcium and magnesium together, which is important because many soils are short on magnesium, and magnesium is central to healthy green growth and chlorophyll. This high grade product has a neutralising value of 98% and supplies around 24% calcium and 10% magnesium, so you are correcting pH and feeding the soil at the same time.
The fine grade is a genuine advantage. Because it is finely ground (100% finer than 0.250mm and 95% finer than 0.150mm), it reacts faster in the soil and is easier to spread evenly than a coarse product, so you see results sooner. It is simple to apply across garden beds, lawns, around fruit trees and over crops, and the 25kg bag is economical for larger areas, with smaller 1kg to 4kg packs for smaller jobs.

How to Use
Spread dolomite evenly over the soil surface, then water it in or lightly work it into the topsoil. For garden beds, apply before planting and mix it through, and for established gardens and lawns, spread it as a top dressing and water in. Around fruit trees, spread it over the root zone out towards the drip line. Application rates depend on your soil, how acidic it is and the plants you are growing, so it helps to check your soil pH first and apply to suit. Dolomite works gradually as it reacts with the soil, so allow time for the pH to adjust, and avoid applying it at the same time as some fertilisers, since combining lime and certain fertilisers together can reduce their effectiveness.
Getting the Best From It
-
Test your soil pH first. Knowing your starting pH helps you apply the right amount rather than guessing, and lets you check the result later.
-
Water it in. Dolomite needs moisture and soil contact to start working, so water it in after spreading.
-
Be patient. It reacts gradually, so pH shifts over weeks rather than overnight. The fine grade helps it act faster than a coarse product.
-
Separate it from fertiliser. Avoid applying dolomite and fertiliser at the exact same time, as combining lime with some fertilisers can reduce the value of both. Space the applications out.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does dolomite do for soil?
It raises soil pH to reduce acidity and supplies calcium and magnesium. Correcting acidity helps unlock nutrients in the soil, and the added calcium and magnesium support healthy, green plant growth.
What is the difference between dolomite and garden lime?
Both raise pH, but garden lime mainly supplies calcium, while dolomite supplies both calcium and magnesium. Dolomite is the better choice where soils are also low in magnesium, which is common.
What is the neutralising value and analysis?
This high grade dolomite has a neutralising value of 98%, and supplies around 24% calcium and 10% magnesium. It is finely ground so it reacts quickly in the soil.
How much should I apply?
Rates depend on your soil, its acidity and what you are growing, so it is best to test your soil pH and apply to suit. Spread it evenly, water it in, and allow time for the pH to adjust.
Can I use it on lawns and vegetable gardens?
Yes. It suits gardens, lawns, fruit trees and crops. Spread it evenly and water it in, applying before planting where you can.
Where can I buy Mudgee high grade dolomite in Australia?
It is available online in 1kg, 2kg, 4kg and 25kg sizes, with local pickup in Bonnyrigg, NSW and delivery options at checkout. Current pricing for each size is shown on this page.
