David Grays Snail Killer Pellets 500g: Snail & Slug Control for Gardens
Snails and slugs can strip a bed of seedlings overnight, and by the time you see the damage the culprits are long gone. David Grays Snail Killer Pellets put a stop to that. They're scattered around the plants you want to protect and work as a bait, drawing snails and slugs in and killing them before they reach your plants.
They suit all the growing areas where molluscs cause trouble: vegetables and flowers, seedlings and mature crops, potted plants, and anywhere snails and slugs like to congregate.
Rain Resistant
Snails and slugs are most active in wet, humid weather, which is exactly when a bait needs to survive damp conditions. These pellets are formulated to be rain resistant, so they hold up through watering and showers rather than dissolving away the first time the garden gets wet.
Contains Bitrex
David Grays include Bitrex in the formulation, a powerful bittering agent added as a taste deterrent to help keep pets away from the bait. It's a genuine safety feature, and it's a good reason to choose these over baits without one. Please read the safety section below, though, because a deterrent is not the same thing as pet-safe.
How to Use
Scatter the pellets in an even, thin spread around the plants you're protecting. This is the single most important tip: resist the temptation to leave them in little heaps. An even distribution means every snail and slug is likely to find a pellet, and it also avoids creating concentrated piles that a curious dog might find worth investigating.
Apply in the evening, since snails and slugs feed at night, and target the damp, sheltered spots they shelter in during the day, under pots, along garden edges, in mulch and beneath low foliage. Reapply as needed, particularly after rain or heavy watering.
Important Safety Information for Pet Owners
Snail and slug baits are one of the most common causes of emergency vet visits for dogs in Australia. The same qualities that make a bait attractive to snails can make it appealing to dogs, and poisoning can develop very quickly.
-
Keep pets and children out of treated areas. The Bitrex bittering agent is a deterrent, not a guarantee. Some dogs will eat bait regardless.
-
Never leave pellets in heaps or piles. Scatter thinly and evenly.
-
Store the container sealed and well out of reach. Dogs have been known to tear open packaging, and an opened container is a far bigger dose than scattered pellets.
-
Apply where pets don't have access wherever possible.
-
If you suspect your pet has eaten snail bait, treat it as an emergency. Don't wait to see whether symptoms appear. Contact your vet or an emergency animal hospital immediately, or call the Animal Poisons Helpline on 1300 869 738.
Wear gloves when handling, store in a cool dry place away from children and pets, and always follow the directions on the product label.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I use snail pellets properly?
Scatter them thinly and evenly around the plants you're protecting rather than in heaps. Apply in the evening when snails and slugs come out to feed, and target damp, sheltered areas. Reapply after rain or heavy watering.
Where should I put them?
Around vegetables, flowers, seedlings and potted plants, and in the damp shaded spots molluscs shelter in during the day, under pots, along edges, in mulch and beneath low foliage.
Are these pellets safe around pets?
They contain Bitrex, a bittering agent added to deter pets from eating them, which makes them a better choice than baits without a deterrent. But no snail bait is genuinely pet-safe. Keep pets out of treated areas, scatter thinly rather than in piles, and store the container securely.
What do I do if my dog eats snail bait?
Treat it as an emergency and contact your vet or nearest emergency animal hospital straight away, even if your dog seems fine. Don't wait for symptoms and don't give food, milk or home remedies. The Animal Poisons Helpline is 1300 869 738.
Will rain wash them away?
They're formulated to be rain resistant, so they hold up better than untreated baits. Even so, reapply after heavy rain or watering to maintain control.
When is the best time to apply?
In the evening, since snails and slugs feed at night. Applying before or during damp, humid weather is most effective, as that's when they're most active.
Why scatter evenly instead of in piles?
Two reasons. Even coverage means more snails encounter a pellet, so you get better control. And piles of bait are more likely to attract a curious pet.
