Coopex Residual Insecticide 25g: Long-Lasting Permethrin Powder for Indoor & Outdoor Pests

Coopex Residual Insecticide is a water-dispersible powder that mixes with water to make a residual surface spray, giving up to 4 months of protection against a wide range of insect pests indoors and out. It contains 250 g/kg permethrin (25:75), a Group 3A synthetic pyrethroid, and comes in a convenient 25g sachet that makes up several litres of spray.

It's a popular choice because it's easy to live with. The formulation is clean, odourless, non-irritant and non-staining, it isn't absorbed into porous surfaces (so it stays active on the surface where pests travel), and it has low mammalian toxicity. It's also exempt from poison scheduling and is often described as one of the least hazardous of the commercially available residual insecticides, which is part of why it's trusted in homes, commercial kitchens and on farms alike.

What It Controls

Coopex controls cockroaches, fleas, spiders, silverfish, houseflies, mosquitoes, biting flies, paralysis ticks, lice, mites, bed bugs and ants, with specialist uses for hide beetles and, in some states, seed-harvesting ants. Being a residual product, it doesn't just kill on contact, it keeps working on insects that cross the treated surface afterwards, which helps break the breeding cycle and stop infestations rebuilding.

Where to Use It

It suits domestic, commercial and industrial situations, both indoors and outdoors, including homes, bakeries, hotels, restaurants, farm buildings, poultry houses and stables. It's a well-known treatment for mites and lice in chicken coops: clear the coop, spray, and replace bedding once the surfaces are dry. Do not spray it directly onto chickens, or onto their feed or bedding.

How to Use

Add the powder to water and apply with a knapsack sprayer, bucket pump or any sprayer that gives a coarse spray, directly onto surfaces the pests frequent. As a general guide from the label, mix 25g in 2.5L of water for initial or severe infestations, or 25g in 5L for maintenance, up to 25g in 10L for lighter jobs depending on the species. Spray to run-off, roughly 1L of prepared spray per 20 to 30 m² depending on how porous the surface is. Prepare only what you need, as diluted spray shouldn't be stored. Reapply as pest activity returns, particularly after heavy rain outdoors.

Safety

Permethrin is toxic to bees and very toxic to fish and aquatic life. Don't use it where rain or run-off could carry it into drains or waterways, and keep it off food and food-preparation surfaces. It will irritate the eyes, so don't inhale the dust, wear elbow-length PVC gloves and eye protection or a face shield when mixing, and wash gloves and eyewear after use. Keep away from children and pets, and let treated surfaces dry before they return. Note that Coopex isn't registered for use on plants or in the garden.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the active ingredient in Coopex Residual Insecticide?
It contains 250 g/kg permethrin (25:75 cis:trans), a Group 3A synthetic pyrethroid, in a water-dispersible powder that's exempt from poison scheduling.

What pests does Coopex control?
Cockroaches, fleas, spiders, silverfish, houseflies, mosquitoes, biting flies, paralysis ticks, lice, mites, bed bugs and ants, plus specialist use for hide beetles and, in some states, seed-harvesting ants.

How do I mix Coopex?
Mix 25g in 2.5L of water for initial or severe infestations, 25g in 5L for maintenance, or up to 25g in 10L for lighter jobs depending on the pest. Spray to run-off and make up a fresh batch each time, as diluted spray shouldn't be stored.

How long does Coopex last?
It provides up to 4 months of residual control from a single treatment on protected surfaces. Outdoor and weather-exposed areas may need more frequent reapplication.

Can I use Coopex in a chicken coop?
Yes, it's a well-known treatment for mite and lice infestations in coops. Clear the coop and spray, then replace bedding once dry. Never spray it directly onto chickens or onto their feed or bedding.

Is Coopex safe to use around pets?
When used correctly, yes. Keep pets away during application and until treated surfaces are fully dry, after which they can return. Note permethrin is toxic to cats and to fish, so keep it away from aquariums and don't let run-off reach waterways.

Can I use Coopex in the garden or on plants?
No. Coopex isn't registered for garden or plant use. It's designed for surfaces in and around structures, not for spraying vegetation.

Where can I buy Coopex Residual Insecticide in Australia?
You can buy the 25g sachet from BPG Supplies, shipped Australia-wide.
