Avigrain Troppo Blue: Premium Fruit and Nut Mix for Large Parrots
Avigrain Troppo Blue is a premium fruit, nut and oilseed blend made for large parrots, both as a treat for tame birds and as a base breeder mix for bigger species. It sits at the top of Avigrain's Blue range, which uses the more expensive fruits and nuts rather than plain grain, and it's genuinely rich enough that the birds "go troppo" over it, which is where the name comes from. Avigrain is 100% Australian owned, made and grown.
This is a coarse, oil-and-nut-heavy mix rather than a small-seed one, so it's best suited to large native and exotic parrots that can handle bigger grain and crack nuts. That includes cockatoos (black cockatoos, sulphur-crested, Major Mitchell, galahs, gang-gangs, corellas), eclectus, alexandrines, ringnecks, amazons, macaws and conures. For smaller parrots it's better treated as an occasional treat rather than a staple, since a millet-based mix suits them better day to day.
What's in the Mix
Troppo Blue is built around oilseeds, real fruit and whole nuts:
-
Grey stripe sunflower and safflower (oilseeds)
-
Raw peanuts, peanuts in shell and almonds
-
Coconut chips and snow white pumpkin seeds
-
Banana chips, paw-paw, pineapple, dried mango and/or dried apple
-
Chillies
Some ingredients can vary seasonally, which is normal for a premium fruit-and-nut mix.
How to Feed It
Because Troppo Blue is high in oilseeds and nuts, it's rich in fat and energy. For large parrots it works well as a base mix, but it's still worth balancing with fresh vegetables, greens and any species-specific supplements your birds need rather than feeding oilseed and nut mix alone. For smaller parrots, offer it as a treat in modest amounts. As with any seed mix, provide clean fresh water, keep the feed dry, and store the bag sealed in a cool, dry place so the nuts and fruit stay fresh and don't go rancid.
Choosing the Right Size
Troppo Blue comes in 1kg, 2kg, 4kg and 15kg. The smaller packs suit one or two birds or trying the mix, while the 15kg bag is the better value per kilo if you're feeding several large parrots or using it as a regular base mix. Seed mixes are best used while fresh, so match the pack size to how quickly your birds get through it rather than over-buying.
Frequently Asked Questions
What birds is Troppo Blue for?
It's made for large parrots including cockatoos, black cockatoos, galahs, eclectus, alexandrines, ringnecks, amazons, macaws and conures. For small parrots it's better as an occasional treat.
What's in Avigrain Troppo Blue?
Grey stripe sunflower, safflower, raw peanuts, peanuts in shell, almonds, coconut chips, snow white pumpkin seeds, banana chips, paw-paw, pineapple, chillies, and dried mango and/or apple. Some ingredients vary seasonally.
Can I use it as a complete diet?
For large parrots it works as a base mix, but because it's high in oilseeds and nuts it's best balanced with fresh vegetables, greens and any supplements your species needs.
Is it suitable for cockatiels or budgies?
It's very rich and coarse for small birds, so it's better offered as an occasional treat. A millet-based small parrot mix suits them better as a staple.
How should I store it?
Keep it sealed in a cool, dry place. The fruit and nut content means it's worth protecting from heat and moisture so it stays fresh.
Where can I buy Avigrain Troppo Blue in Australia?
It's available from BPG Supplies (Bonnyrigg Produce & Garden Supplies), with local pickup in Bonnyrigg NSW and delivery across Australia.
