Roban Rodenticide Blocks 240g: Pet-Safer Difenacoum Bait for Rats & Mice
If you've had rat or mouse problems that just won't clear with the usual supermarket baits, resistance is often the reason. Roban Rodenticide Blocks are built for exactly that situation. They use difenacoum, a second-generation anticoagulant that knocks down both rats and mice, including populations that have grown resistant to older brodifacoum, bromadiolone and warfarin baits. This is the 240g pack.
What makes Roban stand out from most other baits is how much gentler it is on your own animals, without giving up its bite on rodents.
Much Kinder to Cats and Dogs
The concern with most rodent baits is what happens if a dog or cat gets into them. Roban is formulated to be far less toxic to pets than the strongest single-feed poisons. To put it in real terms, a dog would need to eat roughly its own body weight in bait, and a cat around twice its body weight, before reaching a fatal dose. For rodents, though, only a small amount is needed, so you still get reliable control.
This lower toxicity also means less risk of secondary poisoning, the danger of a pet or bird being harmed after eating a poisoned rodent, which is a real worry with the more potent baits.
None of this makes Roban harmless. It is still an anticoagulant poison, and it should always be used inside secured bait stations, kept out of reach of children and pets, and any dead rodents picked up and disposed of promptly. Think of it as pet-safer, not pet-safe.
Palatable to Rodents, Weatherproof for You
Rodents will only take a bait they find appealing, so Roban is made from food-grade wheat flour blended with chopped wheat, oats and milk protein, bound with edible waxes. That combination is genuinely tempting to rats and mice, while the wax keeps the block solid and effective in humid or damp spots, indoors or out. A hole through the centre lets you thread it onto a bait station rod or wire it in place so rodents can't drag it away. To keep children from mistaking it for food, the blocks carry Bitrex, a bitter-tasting deterrent.
Getting Results
Roban works over several feeds rather than a single dose. Rodents feed over a few days, and mortality typically follows 4 to 10 days after they begin, sometimes needing more than one feed. Set blocks out in stations along walls, near burrows, or wherever you're seeing droppings and activity, spaced about every 5 metres, or every 2 metres if the problem is heavy. Check and top up the bait until the activity stops, then remove what's left. Always wear gloves handling bait or carcasses, and wash up afterwards.
Safety
Roban is poisonous if swallowed. Keep it away from children, pets, livestock and wildlife, use it only in secured bait stations, and never let animals eat poisoned rodents. Store it sealed in its original container, clear of drains and waterways. The antidote is Vitamin K1, given under medical or veterinary supervision. If poisoning is suspected, contact a doctor, vet or the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose Roban over a standard rat bait?
Because it controls rodents that have become resistant to common baits, and it's much less toxic to pets. It's a good pick when other baits have failed, or when you have dogs, cats or wildlife around.
How much would harm my dog or cat?
As a guide, a dog would need to eat around its own body weight in bait, and a cat about twice its body weight, to reach a fatal dose. That's a far wider safety margin than brodifacoum baits, but it's still a poison, so keep it in secured stations and away from pets.
Does it work on mice as well as rats?
Yes. Difenacoum is equally effective against both rats and mice.
How soon will I see results?
Roban is a multi-feed bait, so rodents feed over a few days and death usually follows 4 to 10 days after they start, occasionally needing more than one feed.
Can I use it in damp or outdoor areas?
Yes. The wax blocks hold up in humidity and damp, so they suit outdoor spots and burrow baiting as well as indoor use.
What should I do if my pet eats some?
Contact a vet or the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 straight away. The antidote is Vitamin K1, given under medical or veterinary supervision.
How do I set it out?
Place blocks in secured bait stations where you see activity, about every 5 metres, or every 2 metres for a heavy infestation. Keep bait away from food and water, and check it regularly until the rodents are gone.
