Description
Passwell Parrot Soft Food: High-Protein Supplement for Breeding, Weaning & Recovery
Passwell Parrot Soft Food is a protein-rich, nutritionally balanced formula for parrots and cockatoos, designed to meet the increased nutritional demands of breeding birds. It's fortified with omega fatty acids, vitamins and minerals to support better egg quality and chick health, and it's equally useful as a weaning diet for young birds, a conditioning diet for sick or malnourished parrots, and a way to lift the nutrition of birds on a seed or fruit-based diet.
Seed and fruit diets are low in protein and several key nutrients, which shows up fastest during breeding, when a hen's requirements climb sharply. Soft Food is the practical fix: highly palatable, readily accepted by most parrots, and easy to work into what you're already feeding.
Ingredients
Processed cereals and legumes (wheat, barley, oats, peas, lupins), parsley, almonds, soy and whey protein isolates, vegetable oils, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, lysine, methionine, carotenoids, vitamins (A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12, C, D3 and K), biotin, choline, and the minerals calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, zinc, iron, manganese, copper, iodine and selenium, plus 1 g/kg Actigen dried yeast prebiotic for gut health.
The added lysine and methionine matter here, they're the essential amino acids most limiting in a grain-based diet, and they drive good muscle and feather condition.
How to Prepare
Soft Food can be fed as a moist crumble or mixed through other moist foods.
As a moist crumble: mix 10 g (1 scoop) of powder with about 3 mL (½ teaspoon) of water. Add the water slowly while mixing with a fork to form a moist, crumbly texture. Don't make it into a paste, the crumbly consistency is what birds accept best.
With vegetables or soaked seed: mix 10 g (1 scoop) of powder with 20 g (2 scoops) of diced vegetables or soaked seed. Thawed frozen peas and corn work well and are convenient, and chopped greens, fruit or sprouted seed can be used depending on what your birds prefer. Add a little extra water to moisten if needed.
Storage & Shelf Life
Store the dry powder in a cool, dry place, sealed between uses, and check the best-before date on the pack.
Prepared food is different: make it fresh every day and discard any leftovers. Passwell specifically advises against keeping prepared food in the fridge overnight, as it can still become contaminated with micro-organisms. Moist, protein-rich food is an ideal medium for bacteria and yeast, which is a genuine risk to breeding hens and chicks, so fresh daily is worth the small effort.
Weaning & Transitioning to Pellets
Soft Food is ideal as a weaning food for hand-reared parrots moving off Passwell Hand Rearing Food onto solid food. Later, birds transition readily from Soft Food onto Passwell Crumbles or Parrot Pellets: mix the two products together and gradually increase the proportion of crumbles or pellets until they're eating them on their own.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Passwell Parrot Soft Food used for?
It's a high-protein supplement for breeding parrots and cockatoos, and it's also used as a weaning food for young birds, a conditioning food for sick or malnourished birds, and a nutritional boost for birds on seed or fruit-based diets.
What are the ingredients?
Processed cereals and legumes (wheat, barley, oats, peas, lupins), parsley, almonds, soy and whey protein isolates, vegetable oils, omega-3 and 6 fatty acids, lysine, methionine, carotenoids, a full range of vitamins and minerals, and Actigen prebiotic.
How do I mix it?
For a moist crumble, mix 10 g (1 scoop) of powder with about 3 mL (½ teaspoon) of water, adding the water slowly with a fork until it's moist and crumbly, not a paste. To feed with other foods, mix 10 g of powder with 20 g of diced vegetables or soaked seed.
Can I store the prepared food in the fridge?
No. Passwell advises preparing it fresh each day and not storing prepared food overnight, even refrigerated, as it can become contaminated with micro-organisms.
How do I store the powder?
Keep the dry powder sealed in a cool, dry place, and check the best-before date on the pack.
Can I use it to wean hand-reared chicks?
Yes. It's ideal for the transition from Passwell Hand Rearing Food onto solid food, and birds move on from it to Passwell Crumbles or Parrot Pellets easily by mixing the products and gradually increasing the proportion of pellets.
Why does it need to be crumbly rather than a paste?
The moist crumble texture is what parrots readily pick up and eat. A paste is less appealing and messier, so add the water slowly and stop at a crumbly consistency.
What sizes does it come in?
500g and 1kg.
