Copper sulphate blue stone is copper sulphate pentahydrate (CuSO₄·5H₂O), the bright blue crystalline form of copper(II) sulfate, also known as bluestone or blue vitriol. It dissolves readily in water and has long been used in gardens, orchards and on farms, most commonly to make Bordeaux mixture and as a copper source for copper-deficient soils. Why Is Copper Sulphate Blue?
The blue colour comes from water molecules bound inside the crystal, which is why the pentahydrate form is called blue stone. When that water is driven off, it becomes anhydrous copper sulphate, a white to pale grey powder. The blue crystals are the form sold for garden and farm use.

Copper works as a protectant: it forms a barrier on the leaf surface that stops spores from germinating, so it's applied before disease appears, not to cure established infections.
Is Copper Sulphate Good for Plants?
In the right amount, yes. Copper is an essential trace element, and a small amount helps plants that are genuinely copper deficient. But plants need very little, and copper builds up in soil over time. Too much becomes toxic to plants, earthworms and soil life. Get a soil or leaf test before using copper sulphate as a fertiliser, and never apply more than needed.
