Description

Seaweed-Based Plant Food Made Specifically for Succulents and Bonsai

Maxicrop Succulent & Bonsai Food is a liquid concentrate that combines Maxicrop seaweed extract with balanced nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, plus a range of trace elements including iron, copper, zinc, manganese and boron. It is made by Multicrop, an Australian company whose Maxicrop seaweed range is a long-standing favourite with gardeners. This particular blend is formulated for the specific needs of succulents and bonsai, two plant types that do best on gentle, steady feeding rather than heavy doses of strong fertiliser.

That gentle approach is the point of difference. Succulents and bonsai are easy to overfeed, and a harsh synthetic fertiliser can push soft, weak growth or burn the roots. A seaweed-based feed like this delivers nutrients alongside the natural growth factors and trace elements in seaweed, which support strong roots, better colour and improved resilience against stress, pests and disease, without overwhelming the plant. For bonsai in particular, that steady, controlled feeding helps keep growth compact and healthy rather than leggy.

It is also very economical. The 250mL bottle is a concentrate, and at the recommended dilution it makes up to 50 litres of solution, so a single bottle feeds a collection of pots for a long time.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Seaweed extract combined with balanced NPK and trace elements in one feed

  • Formulated specifically for the needs of succulents and bonsai

  • Gentle, low-risk feeding that reduces the chance of burning or forcing weak growth

  • Supports strong root development, healthy growth and better leaf colour

  • Helps plants build resilience against stress, pests and disease

  • Can be applied as a soil drench or a foliar spray

  • Economical concentrate: 250mL makes up to 50 litres of solution

  • Made by an established Australian seaweed brand

How to Use

Mix 5mL (about half a capful) of Maxicrop Succulent & Bonsai Food into 1 litre of water. Apply the diluted solution directly to the soil, or spray it onto the foliage until the point of run-off. Follow a simple seasonal rhythm:

  • Succulents: apply monthly during active growth, and every second month through the dormant period.

  • Bonsai: apply every 7 to 10 days during active growth, and monthly through the dormant period.

Feed more often in the growing season and ease back when plants are dormant, as they use far less at rest.

Getting the Best From It

A few practical habits make a real difference with this feed:

  • Water first, then feed. Give the plant a light water before applying, especially for succulents. Feeding into bone-dry mix can stress the roots. Watering well afterwards helps carry the nutrients down to the root zone.

  • Avoid the heat of the day. Apply in the early morning or evening rather than in strong midday sun, particularly when spraying foliage, to reduce any risk of leaf burn.

  • Do not overdo it. More is not better with succulents and bonsai. Stick to the dilution and schedule, since over-fertilising is one of the most common ways these plants get damaged.

  • Mix fresh each time. Dilute only what you need for that watering, so the solution is fresh and at the right strength.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Maxicrop Succulent & Bonsai Food just seaweed, or does it feed the plant too?
It is both. This blend combines Maxicrop seaweed extract with balanced nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium plus trace elements, so it feeds the plant as well as delivering the natural benefits of seaweed.

How do I dilute and apply it?
Mix 5mL (around half a capful) per 1 litre of water, then apply to the soil or spray onto the foliage to the point of run-off.

How often should I feed my succulents and bonsai?
For succulents, feed monthly in the growing season and every second month while dormant. For bonsai, feed every 7 to 10 days in the growing season and monthly while dormant.

How much solution does one bottle make?
The 250mL concentrate makes up to 50 litres of diluted solution at the recommended rate, so it lasts a long time across a pot collection.

Will it burn my plants?
It is a gentle seaweed-based feed, so the risk is low when used as directed. To be safe, water plants before feeding, apply out of the midday heat, and don't exceed the recommended dilution.

Where can I buy Maxicrop Succulent & Bonsai Food in Australia?
It is available from BPG Supplies with shipping across Australia and local pickup in Bonnyrigg, NSW. Current pricing is shown on this page.
