Description
Rootex-P Plant Cutting Powder 18g: Rooting Hormone for Propagating Cuttings
Rootex-P is a rooting hormone powder that helps you strike cuttings faster and with a much higher success rate. It contains 3 g/kg (3000 ppm) Indole Butyric Acid (IBA), a rooting hormone that stimulates cuttings to develop strong, healthy roots. It's an easy, economical way to propagate your own plants at home, and this 18g satchel treats up to around 600 cuttings. Rootex-P is made in Victoria, Australia.
Using a rooting powder gives your cuttings a real head start. Without it, many cuttings are slow to root or fail altogether. The IBA in Rootex-P kick-starts root formation at the cut, so more of your cuttings take, and they root faster and establish more strongly.
Suitable For
Rootex-P at 3 g/kg is a versatile strength suited to a wide range of plants and to soft, medium and hardwood cuttings, so it's a good all-round choice for the home propagator working with ornamentals, shrubs, natives, roses, succulents and more.
How to Use
-
Take a cutting around 10 cm long and up to 1 cm in diameter, and remove enough of the bottom leaves to allow planting.
-
Moisten the cut end with water.
-
Dip the cut end into the Rootex-P powder, then give it a gentle shake to remove any excess (a thin coating is all you need, more isn't better).
-
Plant the cutting into a propagating mix, such as a blend of peat moss and sand, or your preferred potting or propagation mix.
-
Water daily and keep the mix moist while the cutting roots.
Do not return used powder to the pack, as this can contaminate the rest. For the best strike rate, give your cuttings appropriate light, consistent moisture and, if you can, some bottom heat.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Rootex-P plant cutting powder?
It's a rooting hormone powder containing 3 g/kg Indole Butyric Acid (IBA). Dipping a cutting in it stimulates faster, stronger root development and improves the chance of the cutting taking.
How do I use rooting powder?
Take a cutting about 10 cm long, remove the lower leaves, moisten the cut end, dip it in the powder and shake off the excess, then plant it in a propagating mix and keep it moist. Don't return used powder to the pack.
What is plant cutting powder used for?
It's used in propagation to strike cuttings, that is, to get new plants growing from a piece of an existing plant. The hormone encourages the cutting to form roots quickly and reliably.
How many cuttings does one pack treat?
The 18g pack treats up to around 600 cuttings, so it goes a long way for home propagation.
What plants can I use it on?
A wide range, including ornamentals, shrubs, natives, roses and succulents. This 3 g/kg strength suits soft, medium and hardwood cuttings.
Why shouldn't I return used powder to the pack?
To avoid contaminating the remaining powder with moisture, plant sap or disease from treated cuttings. Tip a small amount out to work with, and discard what's left over.
How can I improve my strike rate?
Use fresh, healthy cuttings, apply a thin coating of powder, plant into a free-draining propagating mix, keep the mix moist (not waterlogged), and provide good light and gentle bottom heat if you can.
