Rally Soft Garden Twist Ties 5m x 5mm – Green Cushioned Plant Tie

Rally Twist Ties: Soft, Flexible Support for Stems and Climbers

Rally Twist Ties are a soft, cushioned garden tie that holds plants securely without cutting into stems. The 5m roll is 5mm thick, with a flexible green coating that bends and holds its shape, so you can twist it around a stake, trellis or frame in seconds. It's gentle on plants, easy to cut to any length, and blends in neatly with foliage in the garden.

Why a 5mm Cushioned Tie Beats Thin Wire

Thin wire and string are cheap, but they concentrate all the pressure on a narrow line. As a stem grows thicker or moves in the wind, thin ties dig in, rub through the bark and can strangle the plant. A 5mm soft tie spreads that pressure over a wider, padded surface, so stems are held firmly without being bruised or cut. The flexible coating gives a little as the plant moves, then holds its shape again, making it much kinder to soft, fast-growing stems.

Bend, Twist and Reuse

Because the tie holds whatever shape you bend it into, there's no need for knots. Simply wrap it around the plant and support, twist the ends together, and it stays put. When the plant grows, untwist it, loosen the loop and retwist, or unwrap it at the end of the season and use it again next year. Cut the length you need with scissors or secateurs.

How to Use Twist Ties on Climbing Plants and Trellises

1. Cut a piece long enough to wrap around the stem and the trellis wire or stake, plus a few centimetres to twist.
2. Loop the tie loosely around the stem, leaving room for the stem to thicken as it grows.
3. Wrap the other end around the trellis or stake, bringing the ends together.
4. Twist the ends a couple of times until secure, then tuck the tail away.
5. Check ties every few weeks during the growing season and loosen them as stems thicken.

A figure-eight loop, crossing the tie between the stem and the support, keeps the stem from rubbing directly against the stake.

Handy Around the Home and Garden

Beyond the veggie patch, these ties are useful for training roses, passionfruit, grapes and climbing beans onto frames, supporting young fruit trees, and holding indoor plants like monstera and pothos to moss poles. They're also handy for bundling garden hoses and extension cords, or tying up canes and bamboo stakes in storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use 5mm soft cushioned twist ties instead of thin wire for plants?
Thin wire focuses pressure on a narrow line and can cut into stems as they grow or sway. A 5mm soft tie spreads the pressure over a padded surface, holding plants firmly without bruising or strangling them.

How do I use twist ties to secure climbing plants to a trellis?
Loop the tie loosely around the stem, wrap it around the trellis, and twist the ends together. A figure-eight loop helps stop the stem rubbing on the support. Loosen ties as stems thicken.

Can I reuse these twist ties?
Yes. Untwist and reposition them as plants grow, or remove them at the end of the season and use them again.

How long is the roll?
Each roll is 5m long and 5mm in diameter, and you can cut it to any length you need.

Can I use them on indoor plants?
Yes. They're ideal for attaching indoor plants to moss poles, stakes and plant supports.
