Cutting In a Rural Tee

Turn off the water and drain the section. Cut out a short piece of pipe with pipe cutters so the ends are square and there is room for both to push fully into the tee. Clean and de-burr the pipe ends. Back off both nuts, push the pipes in to the internal stops and tighten each nut firmly by hand, finishing with a fitting spanner. Turn the branch to face the right way before the final tighten. Wrap the male thread of your tap, valve or riser with thread tape and screw it into the branch, firm but not forced. Stake tall standpipes or heavy valves so they do not lever the tee. Turn the water on slowly and check all three joints.
