Description
Laucke Ol' Jacks Rabbit & Guinea Pig Pet Mix 10kg: Complete Feed with Vitamin C
Ol' Jacks Rabbit & Guinea Pig Pet Mix from Laucke Mills is a complete food that requires no other supplementary feeding. It's a nutritionally balanced, highly palatable mix built specifically for the two things that matter most in a rabbit or guinea pig diet: fibre for a healthy gut, and vitamin C for guinea pigs.
Why the Chaff Matters
The mix contains lucerne (alfalfa) chaff and cereal chaff, which provide the long fibre that rabbits and guinea pigs genuinely need. Their digestive systems are built to process a constant flow of fibrous material, and without enough of it, gut activity slows down and problems follow. The chaff also gives them plenty to chew on, which helps wear down their continuously growing teeth.
Added Vitamin C for Guinea Pigs
This is the detail that makes the mix genuinely well suited to guinea pigs. Unlike most animals, guinea pigs can't produce their own vitamin C, so it has to come from their diet every day. Ol' Jacks includes added vitamin C, so your guinea pigs are getting it as part of their regular feed rather than relying on you to supplement separately.
Vitamin C does degrade over time in stored feed, so it's worth buying a size you'll get through in a reasonable period and keeping the bag sealed in a cool, dry spot rather than somewhere warm.
Ingredients
Formulated from a selection of the following: lucerne (alfalfa) chaff, cereal chaff, barley, triticale, wheat, oats, rice, lupins, peas, beans, canola, soya, sunflower and products derived from these, along with vegetable oil, lignin, molasses, di-calcium phosphate, limestone, bentonite, salt, lysine, methionine, threonine, tryptophan and antioxidant.
Vitamins: A, C, D3, E, K, thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), pantothenate (B5), pyridoxine (B6), B12, niacin, folic acid, choline and biotin.
Minerals: Calcium, phosphorus, sodium, chloride, cobalt, copper, iodine, iron, manganese, molybdenum, selenium and zinc.
Feeding Tips
Provide fresh, clean water at all times, this matters as much as the feed itself for gut health. Feed a sensible daily amount rather than topping the bowl up constantly, and encourage your pets to finish the whole mix rather than picking out just their favourite bits, since the nutritional balance depends on them eating all of it. When changing feeds, introduce the new mix gradually over several days so their digestion can adjust.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ol' Jacks a complete food?
Yes. It's formulated as a complete, nutritionally balanced food that requires no other supplementary feeding. Just provide fresh, clean water alongside it.
Can I feed it to both rabbits and guinea pigs?
Yes. It's formulated for both, which is convenient if you keep both species. The added vitamin C means it covers the guinea pig requirement as well.
Why do guinea pigs need vitamin C?
Guinea pigs can't synthesise their own vitamin C, so it has to come from their diet daily. A deficiency causes serious health problems, which is why a feed with added vitamin C is important for them.
What's in the mix?
Lucerne and cereal chaff, cereal grains, legumes and oilseeds, plus vegetable oil, molasses, minerals, added amino acids, and a full range of vitamins including A, C, D3, E, K and the B group.
Why is fibre so important for rabbits and guinea pigs?
Their digestive systems rely on a steady intake of fibre to keep things moving, and chewing fibrous material also helps wear down their teeth, which grow continuously. That's why the chaff content in this mix matters.
How should I store it?
In a cool, dry place with the bag sealed. This keeps the mix fresh and helps preserve the vitamin C content, which naturally declines over time in stored feed.
How do I switch my pets onto it?
Introduce it gradually over several days, mixing more of the new feed in each time, so their digestion has time to adjust.
What size does it come in?
This is the 10kg bag, which is good value for multiple pets or regular feeding.
