Vetafarm Breeding Aid 250mL: Oil-Based Fatty Acid and Vitamin Supplement for Breeding Birds
Vetafarm Breeding Aid is an oil-based breeding supplement for birds, designed to support egg production, fertility and hatchability. It supplies essential fatty acids and stabilised vitamins that a plain seed diet often lacks, which is exactly what breeding birds need most when they're conditioning and laying.
The formula is built around essential fatty acids (omega 3, 6 and 9, including linoleic, palmitic and oleic acids) plus vitamins A, D3 and E. The fatty acids support healthy egg membrane development, egg laying and chick growth; vitamin A supports cell development, vitamin D3 aids calcium absorption and eggshell formation, and vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps maintain cell membranes.
Because it's oil-based, Breeding Aid is soaked onto seed rather than added to water. Left to sit, the oils penetrate through the seed hull into the kernel, so the birds take up the nutrients as they eat their normal seed. It's especially useful for smaller birds that lay large or multiple clutches, such as budgies, finches and canaries.

-
Let the treated seed sit for 12 to 24 hours so the oil soaks into the kernel

Feed as part of the birds' normal diet leading into and during the breeding season
-
Prepare only what will be eaten within a few days; refrigerate treated seed you're holding
-
For fussy eaters, start with a smaller amount (around 5 to 10mL per kg) and build up
Getting the Best From It
-
Begin before the breeding season to condition birds, then continue through laying
-
Keep offering separate calcium (like a calcium supplement or cuttlefish) and a general vitamin/mineral supplement, since Breeding Aid focuses on fatty acids and A, D, E
-
Store the bottle in a cool place and keep it sealed so the oils stay fresh
-
Don't over-soak more seed than needed, as oiled seed can go off if left too long
FAQs
What is Vetafarm Breeding Aid used for?
It's an oil-based supplement that supports egg production, fertility and hatchability in breeding birds by supplying essential fatty acids and vitamins A, D3 and E that seed diets often lack.
How do I use Breeding Aid, in water or on seed?
It's an oil, so it goes onto seed, not into water. Mix 20mL per 1kg of seed, then let it sit for 12 to 24 hours before feeding so the oil soaks into the kernel.
What does it contain?
Essential fatty acids (omega 3, 6, 9, including linoleic, palmitic and oleic acids) plus stabilised vitamins A, D3 and E.
Which birds is it best for?
All breeding birds on seed diets, and it's especially useful for smaller species that lay large or multiple clutches, such as budgies, finches and canaries.
Can I use it with other supplements?
Yes. Breeding Aid can be used alongside other vitamin, mineral and calcium supplements, which are still recommended for seed-fed birds since this product focuses on fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E.
Where can I buy Vetafarm Breeding Aid in Australia?
Order online for delivery across Australia, or pick up in-store at Bonnyrigg, NSW.
