Avitrol Bird Mite & Lice Spray: Ready-to-Use Pyrethrin Spray for Caged Birds
Avitrol Bird Mite & Lice Spray is a ready-to-use insecticide spray that controls feather mites and lice on caged birds and in their environment. It's based on natural pyrethrins and comes in a convenient trigger bottle, so there's no mixing: you spray it straight onto the bird and around the cage. It's a widely used, economical choice for treating mite and lice problems in pet birds and aviaries.
The active constituents are pyrethrins (0.5g/L), a natural insecticide derived from chrysanthemums, together with piperonyl butoxide (5g/L), a synergist that boosts how well the pyrethrins work. It controls feather mites (Protolichus and Dubininia sp.) and lice (Mallophaga sp.), which cause itching, irritation, restlessness and, in bad cases, poor condition and feather damage.
A key point with mites and lice is that they don't just live on the bird: they hide and lay eggs in cages, perches and nest boxes. That's why Avitrol is designed to treat both the bird and its surroundings, which is what breaks the cycle and helps prevent reinfestation.
