Description

David Grays Copper Oxychloride 200g: Fungicide for Fruit Trees, Vegetables & Ornamentals

David Grays Copper Oxychloride is a home garden fungicide for controlling a range of fungal and bacterial diseases on fruit trees, vegetables and ornamentals. It's a copper-based protectant containing 500 g/kg copper oxychloride, and this handy 200g pack is well sized for the home gardener treating a few fruit trees and garden plants each season.

It's best known as a semi-dormant spray for stone fruit, tackling diseases like peach leaf curl, freckle, brown rot and shot hole, and it also controls black spot and a number of other fungal and bacterial diseases across citrus, grapes, tomatoes, other vegetables and ornamentals.

How Copper Oxychloride Works

Copper oxychloride is a protectant (Group M1) fungicide, which means it guards the plant rather than curing disease that's already inside it. Applied to the plant surface, the copper forms a protective barrier that stops fungal spores and bacteria from taking hold. Because it works on contact and preventively, timing and good coverage are everything, get it on before disease strikes, and cover the plant thoroughly, including into the cracks and buds where spores overwinter.

For peach and nectarine leaf curl in particular, the key spray goes on at bud swell in late winter, just before the buds open. Miss that window and the spray is far less effective, which is why leaf curl is best prevented rather than chased once leaves are already distorted.

How to Use

Mix the powder with water and spray to thoroughly cover the plant. As a general home-garden guide, copper oxychloride is used at around 30 to 75 g per 10 L of water depending on the crop and disease, but always follow the rates and timing on the pack for your specific plant. Reapply as directed and after rain, since it's a contact product that gradually washes off. Avoid spraying in cool, wet conditions where copper is more likely to mark sensitive plants.

Important

Copper can cause leaf or fruit marking (phytotoxicity) if over-applied, particularly on citrus and in cool, damp weather, so don't exceed the label rate. Wear gloves and eye protection when mixing and spraying, avoid breathing the dust, keep it out of drains and waterways, and wash your hands after use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the active ingredient?
It contains 500 g/kg copper oxychloride, a Group M1 protectant fungicide and bactericide.

What diseases does it control?
Leaf curl, freckle, brown rot, shot hole and black spot, among other fungal and bacterial diseases, on stone fruit, citrus, grapes, tomatoes, vegetables and ornamentals.

What is the dosage per litre?
As a general home-garden guide, around 30 to 75 g per 10 L of water (roughly 3 to 7.5 g per litre) depending on the crop and disease. Always follow the rate on the pack for your specific plant.

When should I spray for peach leaf curl?
Apply as a semi-dormant spray at bud swell in late winter, before the buds open. Leaf curl must be prevented early, as spraying after the leaves are affected won't fix that season's damage.

Is it a preventative or a cure?
It's a protectant, so it works preventively by stopping disease establishing. It doesn't cure infection already inside the plant, which is why timing and thorough coverage matter.

Can copper damage my plants?
It can cause leaf or fruit marking if over-applied, especially on citrus in cool, wet conditions. Stick to the pack rate and don't over-apply.

How often should I reapply?
Reapply as directed on the pack and after rain, since it's a contact fungicide that gradually washes off.
