SureFire Metsulfuron Methyl 600 Herbicide 500g: Broadleaf & Brush Weed Control
SureFire Metsulfuron Methyl 600 is a selective, systemic herbicide containing 600 g/kg metsulfuron-methyl as a water-dispersible granule. It's a Group B (sulfonylurea) herbicide used to control certain broadleaf weeds in winter cereal crops, and brush and broadleaf weeds in native pastures, rights of way, forestry, and commercial and industrial areas. The 500g pack includes an 11g measuring scoop for accurate dosing.
Metsulfuron-methyl is a highly potent, low-rate herbicide. It's taken up mainly through the leaves, with some root uptake, then moved through the plant where it inhibits the ALS enzyme and stops the weed growing. Because that enzyme exists only in plants, metsulfuron has low toxicity to mammals, birds, fish, bees and earthworms, and it isn't scheduled as a poison. Its low application rates and quick breakdown in the field mean it presents relatively little environmental hazard when used as directed.
What It Controls
SureFire Metsulfuron 600 controls more than 40 species of brush, broadleaf and bulbous weeds. That includes tough woody weeds like lantana, gorse, bracken, tree-of-heaven and blackberry, along with nuisance pasture weeds such as doublegee, erodium, sorrel, onion grass and Paterson's curse. It's especially effective on weeds with bulbs or tubers, and is often tank-mixed with other herbicides to broaden the spectrum on mixed infestations.
How to Use
The granule dissolves fully in clean water to make the spray mix. For spot and handgun spraying, a common rate is around 10 to 15 g per 100L of water with a wetting agent added, but always follow the rate on the label for your target weed and situation. Apply when weeds are young and actively growing, not stressed by drought or waterlogging, and expect results to be slow: symptoms often take 3 to 6 weeks to show, and full brown-out can take 3 to 6 months.
A few important points: metsulfuron will remove legumes such as clover and medic from pasture if oversprayed, and many crops are sensitive to soil residues, so observe the label's crop rotation and re-cropping intervals. Avoid spray drift onto sensitive plants and gardens.
Safety
Although it's low toxicity and not a scheduled poison, it's still an agricultural chemical. Wear appropriate protective clothing and gloves, avoid contaminating waterways and drains, clean spray equipment thoroughly after use, and always read and follow the full label directions before use.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the active ingredient in SureFire Metsulfuron Methyl?
It contains 600 g/kg metsulfuron-methyl, a Group B (sulfonylurea) herbicide supplied as a water-dispersible granule.
What weeds does it control?
More than 40 species of brush, broadleaf and bulbous weeds, including lantana, gorse, bracken, tree-of-heaven, blackberry, doublegee, sorrel, erodium, onion grass and Paterson's curse.
What is the mixing rate for metsulfuron methyl?
For spot and handgun spraying, a common rate is around 10 to 15 g per 100L of water with a wetting agent. Rates vary by weed and application method, so always follow the label rate for your situation.
How long does metsulfuron take to work?
It's slow acting. Weeds usually stop growing within a day or so, but visible symptoms can take 3 to 6 weeks, and full brown-out of woody weeds may take 3 to 6 months.
Is metsulfuron methyl safe for grass?
It's selective and grass-friendly for many grass species, which is why it's used to take broadleaf and brush weeds out of pastures. However, it removes legumes like clover, and some situations aren't label-supported, so check the label before spraying lawns or pasture.
Does it need a wetting agent?
Yes, a non-ionic wetting agent is generally recommended to improve coverage and uptake. Follow the label for the correct wetter and rate.
Is it harmful to bees and animals?
It has low toxicity to mammals, birds, fish, bees and earthworms, because it targets an enzyme found only in plants. It's still a chemical, so follow all label safety directions.
Where can I buy SureFire Metsulfuron Methyl in Australia?
