Passwell Finch Soft Food 500g: High-Protein Live Food Substitute for Finches & Softbills
Passwell Finch Soft Food is a nutritionally balanced, high-protein supplement for all finches, waxbills, weavers, whydahs and softbills. It provides a concentrated, highly digestible source of protein, enriched with essential amino acids, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals to support breeding condition, egg quality and chick health.
The Live Food Problem It Solves
Most finches and softbills need animal protein, especially when breeding and rearing young. In the wild they feed insects to their chicks, which is why breeders keep mealworms, termites and other live food on hand. That's messy, time-consuming and not always available when you need it most.
Finch Soft Food is designed as a practical substitute. It includes meat meal alongside soy and whey protein isolates, giving the concentrated animal protein and balanced amino acid profile that finches need for muscle and feather condition, without the effort of maintaining live food cultures. It's just as useful outside the breeding season as a straightforward protein boost for birds on a seed-based diet, which is naturally low in protein.
Ingredients
Processed cereals (wheat, barley, oats), soy and whey protein isolates, meat meal, vegetable oils, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, lysine, methionine, taurine, carotenoids, vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12, C, D3 and K, biotin, choline, and the minerals calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, zinc, iron, manganese, copper, iodine and selenium, plus 1 g/kg Actigen dried yeast prebiotic for gut health.
How to Feed
Finch Soft Food is a supplement fed alongside your birds' normal seed diet, not a complete diet on its own.
As a moist crumble: mix 10 g (1 scoop) of powder with about 3 mL (½ teaspoon) of water, adding the water slowly while mixing with a fork until it forms a moist, crumbly texture.
With other foods: mix 10 g (1 scoop) of powder with 20 g (2 scoops) of diced vegetables or soaked seed. Finely chopped greens, fruit, mashed hard-boiled egg or sprouted seed all work well, depending on what your birds prefer. Add a little extra water to moisten if needed.
Prepare food fresh each day and remove any leftovers, as moist, protein-rich food is prone to microbial contamination.
If your birds are used to live food, they may be slow to accept a soft food at first. Offering it alongside their usual live food initially helps encourage them onto it.
Storage
Store the dry powder in a cool, dry place, sealed between uses, and out of reach of children and pets.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Passwell Finch Soft Food used for?
It's a high-protein supplement for finches and softbills, used for breeding birds, as a substitute for live food, and to improve the nutrition of a seed-based diet.
Is it a complete diet?
No. It's a supplement fed alongside your birds' regular seed diet, not a standalone complete food.
Can it really replace live food?
Yes, it's designed as a live food substitute. It contains meat meal along with soy and whey proteins to supply the concentrated animal protein finches need, particularly when rearing chicks, without you having to keep mealworms or other live food.
How do I mix it?
For a moist crumble, mix 10 g (1 scoop) with about 3 mL (½ teaspoon) of water, added slowly with a fork until moist and crumbly. To feed with other foods, mix 10 g of powder with 20 g of diced vegetables or soaked seed.
What do finches eat?
Finches are mainly seed eaters, but seed alone is low in protein and several key nutrients. A good finch diet is a quality seed mix plus greens and vegetables, grit and a calcium source, and a protein supplement like Finch Soft Food, which becomes especially important during breeding.
Which finches is it suitable for?
All finches, including zebra and Gouldian finches, along with waxbills, weavers, whydahs and softbills.
My birds won't touch it, what should I do?
Birds accustomed to live food often need convincing. Offer the soft food alongside their usual live food at first, and they'll generally take to it over time.
Do I need to make it fresh each day?
Yes. Prepare only what your birds will eat that day and remove leftovers, since moist, high-protein food can spoil and grow bacteria quickly.
