Manutec Wettable Sulphur 500g: Fungicide and Miticide for Powdery Mildew, Rust, Scab and Mites
Manutec Wettable Sulphur is a fungicide and miticide for the garden, based on a fine colloidal form of elemental sulphur (800g/kg) that mixes readily with water for spraying. It controls common fungal diseases including powdery mildew, scab, rust and brown rot, and also controls mites, making it a useful all-rounder for fruit growers and vegetable gardeners.
Sulphur is a contact product that works on the plant surface, and it's one of the longer-standing, organically acceptable options for disease and mite control. It suits most plants, including pome fruit (apples, pears), stone fruit, grapevines, vegetables and ornamentals. A practical bonus for home gardeners is that it has no withholding period on most crops, so it can be applied right up until harvest, the one exception being wine grapes.
It's supplied as a finely milled powder that disperses evenly in water, so you get consistent coverage across the foliage. The 500g bottle is a convenient size for ongoing seasonal use in a home garden or hobby orchard.

Also controls mites on a range of crops

How to Use
-
Mix with water at the rate given in the how-to-use table on the product label
-
Apply with a knapsack, hand-held or boom sprayer as a foliar spray
-
Spray thoroughly for full coverage of both upper and lower leaf surfaces, as sulphur works on contact
-
Reapply every 7 to 10 days, or as needed while disease or mite pressure is present
-
Keep agitated while spraying so the sulphur stays evenly mixed
Important Notes
-
Do not apply in hot weather: spraying when temperatures are above about 30°C can scorch or burn foliage, especially on sulphur-sensitive plants. Spray in the cool of the morning or evening
-
Do not mix sulphur with oil sprays, and avoid applying it within a few weeks of an oil spray, as the combination can damage plants
-
Some plants are sulphur-sensitive (for example certain apple, pear, cucurbit and berry varieties), so check tolerance or test on a small area first
-
Sulphur is a flammable solid: keep it away from heat, sparks and open flame, and store it in a cool, dry place in its closed original container
-
Wear gloves and wash your hands after handling, as it can irritate skin and eyes
-
Always read and follow the label directions before use
Getting the Best From It
-
Use it preventatively: sulphur is most effective at stopping disease taking hold, so start early when conditions favour mildew or rust rather than waiting for heavy infection
-
Aim for even, thorough coverage, since any surface you miss isn't protected
-
Time sprays for mild conditions to get good contact activity without risking leaf burn
-
Rotate or combine with other control methods over a season to keep pressure off and reduce the chance of resistance building
FAQs
What does Manutec Wettable Sulphur control?
It's a fungicide and miticide that controls powdery mildew, scab, rust and brown rot, along with mites, on fruit trees, grapevines, vegetables and ornamentals.
How do I mix and apply it?
Mix it with water at the rate shown in the how-to-use table on the label, then apply as a thorough foliar spray with a knapsack, hand-held or boom sprayer. Reapply every 7 to 10 days or as needed.
Is there a withholding period?
On most crops there's no withholding period, so it can be applied up until harvest. The exception is wine grapes, so check the label if you're spraying those.
Can I spray it in hot weather?
No. Avoid spraying when temperatures are above about 30°C, as sulphur can burn foliage in the heat. Spray during the cooler part of the day, and don't combine it with oil sprays.
Is it safe for organic gardening?
Sulphur is a naturally occurring mineral and is one of the organically acceptable options for disease and mite control. It's low in toxicity to people and pets, though it's still a garden chemical, so follow the label and basic handling precautions.
